Alli know is..all the guys I served with on the helicopters were not stupid, but the cream of the crop so to speak..
The crews the officers..was one big team effort to do what had to be done despite the odds!
The Infantry did what had to be done.
There was not a Huey I knew of that did not have bullet hole patches on it somewhere..
While the war was so unfair in so many ways....(your economic status for the draft). There was a lot of us that went...not because we had to, but because at that time we thought it was the right thing to do...20 /20 hind site is wonderful...yes we were played with by the politicians...
So...does that make us stupid? For sure you can not count us as cowards ..in the next war that will be HERE...all the self righteous can stand up and go to their war..BUT will Not know how....and once again...it will fall upon us..Once again we will do what has to be done

Until about 1968 it wasn't clear to most of America whether the claims Westmoreland the politicians were making about the war's goals were legitimate or not. After that time it was pretty clear we were being lied to. I feel sorry for the men and women who went to Viet Nam and suffered for it. It wasn't any easier to tell right from wrong in those days than it is now.

Don't feel sorry for me, I don't want it or need it, none of my friends want it or need it, feel sorry for your own pathetic self.

What are you so bitter about?

In war we always lose many of our Best & Brightest.

I have someone that I do call a friend because of hobby relationships who was one of the frigging "Canadian deserters" during the war. Of course he was a Northern Kalifornia hippy but still proudly says that he served his country from Canada. When he talks like this I just walk away but he knows how I feel about it.

"Served his country from Canada"???? I'd love to ask that POS just how he did that. Maybe by not being here to stink up the area....about all I can imagine.

I know I have much less disgust for someone who was a conscientious objector than a person who says they were there when they were not. I have no respect for either one but at least I have some understanding for a CO's position.

The liar is a real coward.

Proudly !!! I guess the best part is he admits it...I see NO Proud there..!!!!!
At least mohammed Ali stood up and Proudly got stripped of his boxing Title.....That's standing up!
Running away is just that...running away

Mark,

You know I am into antique airplanes and this guy is a real expert at these, and restores them to show quality. I bump into him once or twice a year and have learned not to get into political discussions with him after he made this comment and I found out that he was a deserter during the war.

Like I said I just walk away if talk turns to political crap around him as my blood pressure does not need it. I still feel that the deserters should be put in jail...

Drdogface 03-06-2011 08:33 AM

Joe,
Oh I certainly understand. I was not suggesting that YOU do that...just that if I were to meet someone casually that said that...not a friend or someone I'd have to associate with...I'd do it.

Joeaksa 03-06-2011 08:41 AM

Mark,

Correct and what is worse, I am on the board of directors for a major organization that we both work with on a volunteer basis, so not going to step on my johnson.

That said he does know how I feel about it and we just agree to not discuss it... or I might rip his head off and you know what inside...
