New spoon added.......

Latest addition to my "assortment". This is a PTR91-KF in 7.62x39. Uses standard AK47 mags. This is an HK91 clone made on HK91 machinery. Very good quality for this type of rifle, so far no problems with feeding/firing, etc. The recoil is very mild, feeling more like shooting a 20ga. semi auto shotgun.

Hmm, I was just looking at one and am considering it. I also have a friend who has a pre ban HK he is willing to sell me. His of course is chambered in 7.62 NATO. What was your reason to go with the 7.62 x 39mm?

At a guess, I'd say "cheap and plentiful".

Why the AK round version?

Actually, the reason I picked the model that shoots the 7.62x39 round is that I already have a Cetme rifle in 7.62x51. The Cetme is the rifle that the HK was designed after. When HK did their version, the only thing they changed was the rear sight. The Cetme has a rear sight that rotates like flipping pages while the HK uses a drum type rear sight. The HK is better! Not liking the rear sights on the Cetme, I bought a scope mount and added a red dot sighting device.

Cool, thanks Fred. I've looked at a PTR91 chambered in 7.62 NATO and liked it a lot, very well put together. But of course, I tell my friend this and he then says he wants to sell his HK "to a good home" so now it's decision time. My thought is to get the HK since it will probably hold it's value better.

Thoughts?

James

Decision time.......

Depends on what he wants for the HK. The latest prices that I have seen run in the $3k - $4k range! I paid less than $1k for the PTR. On the other hand, you are correct that the HK will always be worth more than the PTR. If you can get the HK91 for $2k or maybe even a little less, then that is the way I would go. I guess it all depends on how big a check you want to write!!

Nice rifle, Fred!

Fred,
Do you reload? I'm not familiar with that rifle. Here's one I worked on last weekend (AR-10 in .308Win)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299019279.jpg

Nice AR

Art,

Very nice AR platform rifle. I don't have one in .308, but do have one in 5.56x45. Like shooting a .22 rimfire!

Yes, the HK he is selling is a very good price so I might jump on it. Plus it comes with a factory bipod. The PTR91 is extremely well made.

I'm trying to work out a trade right now on GunBroker. I want a Colt 1903 and the guy may trade me that one for 3 Ortgies (2 x .25 and 1 x .32). The Ortgies are nice, but they are too finicky for me. I really, really want the old Colt and would like to see what David (targa911s) could do with it!
