Yes, everyone has problems

I finally got the California Blood Tax paid on my car yesterday and got the plates, I took it down to Doheney to take a picture, look over the top right,
this boat washed ashore Friday, someone sure screwed up. The tide hasn't been high enough to float it.

Looks like a yak in the earlier pix on the bow...don't see it on the later ones. I could use either of the zodiacs;)

Always loved those Z3 'wagons'. Very unique.

onlycafe 03-01-2011 01:08 PM

i thought that the melting polar ice caps would have fixed that problem.

azasadny 03-01-2011 01:33 PM

Love that Z3!

Just gonna take a few thousand more years. 5000 years ago Iowa was covered with Ice so it just may happen.

YTNUKLR 03-01-2011 02:31 PM

How's that Z3.0?

What a great opportunity to replace all of the through-hulls and a bottom cleaning. Kind of like careening as the pirates way back yon arrrrrrrrrr.
I like the car, nice color red.

Yeah, I went by it a few times today and the hull is still dirty, maybe they won't let them clean it on the beach. Or, they could put tarps around it and clean it. I will check it again tomorrow.

Tobra 03-01-2011 07:44 PM

The ice was floating in the water in the glass.
Not all of the Polar ice is floating. Most of it is on land (Greenland, Antarctica)

I suspect the boat won't be worth much if the owner has to wait for the ice caps to melt.

Yes, still waiting for the big Ice Melt, high tide came and went, the boat didn't float. Boat guys, I think I would have paid a Tug to sit out there with a long line and when the tide came in, tried to pull it off. Yes/No?

LOL

Imagine the owner coming back the next day and finding a parking ticket attached to the bow.

I'd expect that from CA.

Probably a citation for littering the beach too.

kanadary 03-02-2011 09:43 AM

looked like a beautiful day for a boat ride..

BeyGon 03-02-2011 09:59 AM

I talked to the ranger today, he said it got loose from it's mooring off shore Friday, nobody on board, the state doesn't want to touch it and has been giving the owner a lot of leeway to get it off. They may bring out a big backhoe and try to dig a channel for the next high tide. I don't have enough money to even think of getting into a problem like this. I owned a 14 foot Valco when I lived in Costa Rica, biggest boat I have had.

My BIL fell asleep and grounded his 30' sailboat near La Jolla. They gave him 24hrs to get rid of it. Had to bring in an excavator that smashed it and loaded the remains on to several trucks. It cost him $35K. Last I heard I think he's gotten his insurance company to pay.

That's what I was just thinking as I was reading this thread, dig a trench and float it out!

Holy Ouch!!! That hurts.

In college a buddy had a 14' or 18' Kris craft. We gong caught trying to camp on a small island in Tampa bay. A huge storm came in. The boat almost floated away, but a bunch of us pulled it as high as we could get it. The next morning, there were a bunch of feet of dry beach between the back of the boat and the water. Between lots of digging (by hand, IIRC) and lots of pushing and pulling, we managed to get it floating again. This boat looks a tad bigger.

I remember leaving Nantucket on the ferry at the end of my honeymoon. Perched on top of the breakwater (like God had reached down and put it there) was a motorboat about 35' long. Must have been some sort of party up until that moment for them.

The Skipper brave and sure,

A three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,

The Minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore
Of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan,

You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways
Here on Gilligan's Isle!

I don't have any problems I am a WINNER...

BeyGon 03-03-2011 09:22 AM

Update, it still won't float, the ranger said today we won't have a good high tide for another week, this guy doesn't have Vessel Assist and no insurance, the Coast Guard came in the morning it beached and drained all the fluids, no way to run it now, the guy had to pay the Coast Guard on the spot for the draining. Going downhill from here. I point this out to my wife and tell her how much better cars are, I don't lose nearly as much with a car.
I asked the ranger about salvage on the boat, he said it's not abandoned, the guy visits it every day.
This morning.

Don't be so hard on the poor thing.
Although it is a wagon, I wouldn't really call it a boat.
