Trivia Time.........
Ok, let's see who can ID this tropical paridise. The only hint you get is that I was there in 1971 on an all expense paid "cruise".

Is that Kwaj? I've never been myself, but a few friends made their way through there.

Good guess........
But no!

Diego Garcia
|
We got a Winnahhh.......
Yep good ole Diego Garcia. Sitting smack in the middle of the Indian Ocean. I was a member of the "landing party" of 27 Seabees in February 1971. We were responsible for getting enough of the camp set up for the next group know as the "advance party". The second group had about 150 members. Once the "AP" arrived and started helping expand the camp facilities, the battalion main body groups started arriving. By the time the entire battalion had arrived there were about 800 Seabees swarming all over the island. I was there from February thru early October of '71. Eventually, it became an advanced materiel' base.

My father taught the SeaBees school for the dredge operators for DG. The school was in Rhode Island.

Seabees......
The Seabee base in Rhode Island was called Davisville and was located next to a Naval Air Station named Quonset Point. I was stationed there in MCB40 from '69 thru '71. Nice place, nice people. If I could not live in Georgia, I would pick R.I.

So Fred, were there any cool animals or insects on that island that are not found on any other place?
|
Coconut Crabs and "Royal Chickens"!
|
