Anyone here usign Clear for internet service?

My home/moving exploits continue

I recently discovered that the house we thought was a scam actully is NOT a scam!
The owner has put it up for rent here' more details 19600 44th Place NE, Lake Forest Park, WA 98155 | MLS# 163806

But... there's no high-speed cable internet available there. DSL only, and those wires are copper... 1.5m/bit slow...

So, I'm looking at Clear. We're very data dependant here and need fairly high speed. Lots of Netflix streaming...

How many here are using Clear as thier internet service? Outages? Connection speeds?

Also trying to find out why/who won't let Comcast run a line to the house. It's a freakign incredible house, rent is right. It's a house I'd actually consider BUYING. Dedicated workshop area...everything but high speed 'net.:confused:

Also.. wondering what department of the city I shoudl contact to find out why they won't let Comcast run a cable....

RUN AWAY

You will be very unhappy with the speeds. Trust me.

Edit: Actually, I don't think they make you sign a contract, so you could always give it a try for a month or two and see if it works for you.

Cool house, BTW

Haven't been inside to see it yet. The lack of high speed will be a deal-kilelr for sure. We do a LOT of data and bandwidth heavy stuff here.

My Clear 4G is soo fast. You won't be sorry. I can easily run multiple internet tasks and video at the same time and not know if im on FIOS or my 4G (even though I only have FIOS at home and Clear 4G at the office). Get the Clear and you'll be happy and they can check to see if you have 4G at your address before buying.

I did check. They say they can provide between 6 and 10m/bit down to that address.
I spoke with Netflix today, and as luck would have it, the guy I spoke to said he had Clear for quite a while and streamed just fine.
When I say we are "data dependent" I meant it. We stream Netflix several times a week. I stream live video from my shop frequently. I probably download around 20GB's worth of stuff weekly... not counting the Netflix.
When I went of my "vintage sci-fi" kick a few months back it was around 500GB's worth of stuff.
I filled a Terabyte hard drive in a week.

Heavy. user. :D

So does this mean this house may be a starter for you?

Get the Clear, go to the house, test the actual speed, if it's faster in just one part of the house that's ok, your wifi will distribute to the rest, but you want to make sure its fast somewhere. Hope it works!

Well..

Clear shows the location being in the "best service" area so that's a definite plus. They also provide a business plan and they can readjust towers if my connections speeds are crap.

Starter house? Umm... this is a house I would consider as "the" house, from the looks of it. Buying is still out at this time and would be a "no" if broadband access is horrible there.. but if it's a go and good connection, I'd consider this as a permanent home, barring mudslides.
I mean, seriously... what I've wanted in a home is: Close to the city, feel like the mountains/forest. Plenty of space. Not five feet from another house. Large enough shop and garage, and well-built interesting architecture (both houses have the architecture thing going for them)

Although I really must say, I REALLY do completely dig the somewhat Addams Family/Munsters/Haunted house feel (and it really did feel that way) of the other place we're looking at...pulling up to it, you almost expect darkness to fall and lighting to flash.. :D

but if I were to buy that place in the future, I'd have to add considerably to the shop/garage space....

lisa_spyder 03-04-2011 10:09 PM

hey but what about the really steep driveway? I just remembered that...is that going to be a problem for you in bad weather?

WolfeMacleod 03-04-2011 10:20 PM

UGH

I just received an email from the owner. The house was signed away today for lease. We hadn't even had a chance to see it yet. The agent knew I was very interested,.

I want to scream. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Yeah way. This is the third or fourth house we've found that this has happened on. The first had two large workshop rooms and an oversized garage. Another giant house at a reasonable price. The second had a large garage, the entire lower floor was workshop, and a ginormous deck... interestingly enough, directly across the street from the large brown house. It was signed just hours before we saw it and made the call.
Just heartbreaking. I'm doomed to work in inefficient quarters again it seems.

I want to puke

lisa_spyder 03-04-2011 10:43 PM

Can't say I blame you...:(
