I've been working out of town since the last week of September 2010. I'm 93 miles away from home from Sunday night until Friday, then back home on the weekend with my family. My company rented me a very nice furnished apartment with laundry, parking structure less than a mile from the client's location, but it's still a pain to be away. I talked my client into letting me work 4 days away from home, then work from my home on Fridays, so that's a little better. Starting May 1st, I'll be back at my company's office with a daily commute, but at home with my family during the week...

I too am Platnium for Marriott, 100K for United, etc. I travel about 80% of the time, bu never over the weekends.

I look at it as part of the job. For what I do, being there in person for clients is a benefit.

I try to see friends and family if I am anywhere near them, but yes it does get old.

We use my frequent flier miles for family vacations, so that does help make it somewhile tolerable.

I get to spend Mon-Thursday of this week in Minneapolis.

Going out of town for filming, they usually try to keep per diem costs down by filming 6 days a week. Not much time for fun. It's not bad but as we say "It's location, not vacation."

Dropped it into the signature line. It was actually an idea I have for a book.

I've traveled over 2 1/2 million miles over the last 33 years. All of it sitting on my a$$ with a steering wheel in my hands. Had some really good times - a lot of not so good times.
My wife went with me for a while (maybe three years) before we had kids. When the first was born i sold the truck and trailer and bought a dump truck so that i could be home every night.
Did that for about 10 years (boring) but ended up with another truck and trailer.
I try not to be gone more than a week -week and a half but, what with the economy taking a dump, i sometimes have to wander off further than i'd like.
It's gotten to the point were i just don't want to leave the house anymore. Maybe $4.00 a gallon diesel has got something to do with it but i think i just like sleeping in my own bed in my own house instead of curled up in a sleeping bag in the back of a truck .

Crap-I can't stay home and make any real money. Got to go where the work is.

I've done some limited business traveling. At one time, I was a platinum one pass member with Continental.

I loved it, but I can see how it might get old if you had to do it for years.

I use to travel a lot. At the time my boys were 1 and 2. Missed out on a lot of them growing up. Not worth the money. But one thing about traveling that I grew to hate and it still gets to me today are the smells of traveling. The hotel cleaning/deodorants. The smells of airplanes/terminal bathrooms. That combined with processed chain food (Chilies,Applebee's...) has really made me into a homebody.

This is becoming more of the reality. I work for a company that is global. I don't turn down travel because that is where the work is. I know that if I turn it down, someone will take it and frankley I need the job.

I've owned my own business for 25 years, so ALL travel is business travel.:D

I even managed to write off 10 days in Cancun and a month in Europe.

I hate it. Travel was something I removed from my current career by choice. It is the worst.

Expense account? First class?

What are these things you speak of?

Try company sending you coach on a red eye to save a few bucks... and trying to live on a $40 a day per-diem.

Yeah sucks donkey balls... glad it went away.
