Looking for weekend road trip ideas - SE US

I just did Asheville, Charleston, and DC recently, so I'm looking for some other ideas for a quick roadtrip.

I've done Miami & Key west before (2006/7), though the rest of my family haven't. It would be the easiest one to do as the driving distance isn't as much.

I'm also looking into TN & KY caves & alpine slides as something new to try.

Can you guys suggest anything I may have overlooked? I really dislike being in FL, because most of the interesting places is so far away.

PS - it's a roadtrip because I like to take my dog along.

Garage
Asheville
blue ridge parkway to 441
441 through newfound gap
old 73 through smoky mountain national park
321 to foothills parkway
foothills parkway to 129 tail of the dragon
129 to cherohola skyway to telico plains
telico plains to 75
75 to FL

Google map the route. BRP, FP and CSW all have awesome overlooks.
I live right off of FHP. If you decide to do this route get my number. I have tools!

I know this may sound odd, but Aiken, South Carolina is probably the neatest little town in the SE.

The town became a winter equestrian playground for the very wealthy in the 1800's and still caters to horses to this day.

The town surrounds a wooded area know as Hitchcock Woods, which open to the public, dogs on leashes, and is a great day hike.

I could write a bunch, but best to focus your google machine on a search.

There are great back roads in the area and the drive up from FL can be as rural has you want.
