I say the "F" word too much.

Tell me how to get over the bad habit; I use it as a verb, noun, etc...I need to stop it is my one and only bad habit.

ben parrish 03-06-2011 02:26 PM

What the f#@* dude. Do you know how f#@*!&% stupid you sound to all the mutherf#@*ers with that f#@*!&% tongue.
F#@*!
:D

Fishman7 03-06-2011 02:30 PM

exactly

ben parrish 03-06-2011 02:39 PM

Yeah, I can have a potty mouth also. Having kids has helped; at least around them.
I need to work on it but I'll have to say, it's not my only bad habit.

rcecale 03-06-2011 02:42 PM

Make a conscious effort to replace the "F" bomb with a different word. Not "friggin", or something easy...try something like "sexing". Eventually, your, sexing, subconscious will, sexing, see how, sexing, ridiculous you, sexing, sound...

My stepdaughter, like, couldn't, like, complete a whole, like, sentence, without, like,...using the word "like"

After making her replace the word "like" with the word "love" and then calling her on it...she cured herself.

Just my own two, sexing, cents! :-)

in the military, my last duty statio was in a war zone. in fitness reports, the primary complaint was that i "talked like edited - Z-man.." that didn't really bother me.
i read a definition of profanity being a weak mind trying to express itself. i tried to improve a bit.

Nathans_Dad 03-06-2011 03:10 PM

Were you sitting on the plane behind me yesterday? I swear this guy sitting behind me dropped the F bomb every other word.

Seriously, it shows a lack of ability to speak English well when that is the only adjective/noun/verb you know.

dw1 03-06-2011 03:30 PM

I agree - it tells anyone in earshot about the speakers lack of education.

And lack of any feelings for those around him/her that are offended by such language or children who can get the idea that it is ok.

My father was a USN officer (USNR while I was growing up) and he let us know in the strongest terms that is was NOT ok to talk like that.

When I went in the same branch of the service as an enlisted man many years ago, I saw why. Some of those I served with used the F word as every other word.

My suggestion for stopping is to substitute something that sounds almost appropriate in its place. I know someone who uses "bloody" but that sounds too British. Maybe something like "very" would work.

Another technique might be to look around a bit while you are talking. Seeing the people who can hear you might make a difference.

Fishman7 03-06-2011 03:39 PM

Great suggestions......while driving today I just realized I have to make a concious effort to stop.....I really do hate this habit!

Give a dollar to your kid/wife/church/ everytime you say it.

jyl 03-06-2011 04:25 PM

I used the word more, before I had kids.

stomachmonkey 03-06-2011 06:27 PM

Have kids or move to NY.

FWIW, I hear it just as much from educated people, YMMV.

red-beard 03-06-2011 06:55 PM

One of my best friends is using the F word too much. He is Spanish and I don't think he has the cultural inhibition for the English swear words.

Yesterday we were in a little bar/restaurant in rural Texas. We were surrounded by 65+ year old people from the area out for lunch on Saturday. I do not expect they liked hearing him drop the f-bomb in regular conversation. I did suggest he tone it down. He did for a few minutes. I am not his father, so I'm not going to correct him all the time.

This is the reason I refuse to learn the swear words in other languages. Without the cultural inhibition, you'll Way over use it, or using it in the wrong circumstances.

give your wife a $50 bill every time you use it - you'll stop

quicksix 03-06-2011 07:27 PM

tape your self, listen to the way you use F,,, and slow down to compose your thoughts

slow&rusty 03-07-2011 03:30 AM

It is a great word, what is there not to like!
