I agree, that wasn't bad at all. I think there's already a thread with some really bad cover bands. There was some really, really bad stuff in that.

I know the meaning of the term "cover" in this context, but where this usage originate? Is there some logic reason to have started using the word in this way?

Is there a reason lots of words in the music industry are used that would normally mean something else? Not to pull this too far OT, but how about poker language?

I guess it's just hip to use alternative words. To answer your question, lots of terms used today started back in the late '40's with the Black jazz musicians.
