When your wife's sister's boyfriend does renos for you

My son and his wife had her sisters boyfriend do a complete reno of their bathroom.
He moved in with them and amazingly had it done in 2 weeks.
First time they use the bathtub the tenant below get a flood.
This guy buried this monster under the tub.

My son managed to do it right.

Now he gets to fix the ceiling.

He charged them $9,000 for labour.
Sure looks like liquid nails. lol I wonder if he used it for the tiles too.
I've been biting my lip ever since they hired him and still am.
My son has no plumbing experience yet he figured out buried pipes need to be glued not pressure fit.

I wonder if he also did VenetianBlau's minisplit outdoor unit?

Should I rotate this mini-split (myself) 90 degrees?

Yep, I've found lots of incorrectly installed plumbing over the years which is crazy because it's not that hard.

THe secret is to check several videos and make sure that you only follow the one that does things correctly. Just like there are folks that don't know what they are doing, some of those folks also create videos. I learn stuff from the 'Net or YT, but I always check a bunch of sources and make my own determination on what I think is correct based on common sense, majority and sometimes code if I can find the info.

oh yeah, you always gotta watch 3 or 4 ways of doing it. and from that you can usually distill the best way for your current issue.

none of them say "use some brass, and then liquid nails it in" though

He also did electrical. I'm worried he buried junction boxes in the wall.
My son has always asked me for advice, but the last couple of years he stopped.
Maybe I said something to offend him in the past or his wife thought so.

The lure to using a swivel trap is because once you set up the glue trap, mark everything and begin the glue up, you have like a minute to do the critical line up part. You better be ready.

And since there is no 2" slip joint that I know of (regularly found in the plumbing aisle) he gets a
1 1/2" and cobbs it together. I wonder how much ABS cement is on his shirt and pants.

It's just a man in the plumbing aisle probably on only his second trip for the day. Nothing to see here.

I find cutting and gluing ABS enjoyable.

You should ask mention that. "You used to ask me for advice about stuff. You've stopped. Did I offend you or something?"

You never know, it could be something small or a misunderstanding, and by addressing it, it could strengthen your relationship and save you both some heartache and them some money. If there's an issue or misunderstanding, hopefully, it's something that you can fix. If he thinks he knows everything and you can't help him, just say "OK" and leave it at that.

Hell, maybe he thinks that asking questions is bothering you and he's trying to save you, when in reality, you'd love to be asked.

If you don't say anything, you can't improve the situation.

And if you don't want to confront the bigger issue, you can hopefully at least plant a seed about the electrical. "Hey, I know there was this big plumbing issue. I'm concerned that if he did a hack job on the plumbing, he could have done something similar on the electrical. And maybe it's something that's not as obvious but could eventually cause a fire. You might want to check into that." or something along those lines.

LOL. I guess if it had been your guy, your unit would be sitting on an upside down 5 gallon bucket that's not level. There's a mental picture for you. "It could always be worse".
