mstsc if you have XP. I think it also available with vista and window 7

I use the remote desktop that comes on your computer.

TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet

RDP has some limitations, but if you can live with it, it's easy. For instance you can't use any graphical applications over RDP. Teamviewer can do advanced things like DirectX apps and such, oh and it's free.

Remote Desktop all by itself unless you're firewall challenged.

If that's the case, download Windows Live Essentials from Windows Update and use Live Mesh (one of the things "to the cloud" is supposed to mean that you can never figure out)

mstsc = Remote Desktop = works great and is free (unless you've got one of the versions of Windows Vista that has had RDP stripped out).

Logmein is also supposed to work really well. I've worked with several folks that used it extensively.

+1 for LogMeIn https://secure.logmein.com/products/free/ It's a terrific service and there is absolutely no reason to use the pay version!

Another vote for LogMeIn. Used it a lot a few years ago when I was still travelling a lot, lately just on the odd occasion. Always worked very well for me.

That is what I do as well. I am actually surprised that in all of the different companies that I am in, most of them allow outgoing port 22 connections from their workstation networks. Right now, I am running X window over ssh to a machine at home to write this response.

+3

I've been using R D for years.

I also run it thru a 1024x600 tablet.

The only limitations I've found are; the backdrop/wallpaper of the remote machine will view only the background color, and when I'm rotating 3D graphics (SWx) full transparency objects revert to low transparency mode/display, until rotation stops.

...also, expect a bit of lag. Usually not horrible, but a bad connection will show stop.(for any remote application, of course)
