My brother is getting married again this weekend.

One of our oldest family friends flew in from Stuttgart for the festivities.

He's an X works guy, used to build 917's.

Spends his time these days flying around to all the owners and working on their cars and taking them to events.

I'm sure he has an opinion about this type of thing.

There was a guy who showed at dunkel's about 8 or 9 years ago in one of those, it was painted in gulf colors, had a really big 4 with webbers, and was done very well. It was nice.

Normally i thumb my nose at those things but his was done right and I wouldn't mind driving it for a while.

Iffn I was to do a kit car the first choice would be a cobra, the second would be a 550.

Done right? In my humble opinion, done right with one of these is to take it direct to the scrapyard. This and a 917 have absolutely zip in common...

Those cars were cool when I was 13 years old, but even then I knew the lines were quirky.

Did the 917 Laser/ Lazer use a Super Beetle windshield?

EDIT: answered my own question.................

There was a real problem with the windshields. They originally came out of 70's Opel Gt's. PPG had to recall all of theirs as they would not fit. Triplexx out of England still makes them and they are available from Pilkingtons in North America.

I think it looks pretty cool. Obviously not the real thing, but I would beat the heck out of it as a daily driver. It's not far from my house. I may go take a look at it.
