Is there a way to make edits on pdfs?
I only have Adobe Acrobat Standard and I'm trying to edit out a few lines on data in a pdf. Is this possible? Which tool do I use?

Tools > Advanced Editing > Touch Up Text Tool.
Highlight text, then right-click > delete. |
You need a version other than the free reader.
In a pinch you can use Adobe Illustrator but that can get messy. If the document is a PDF of a scan or image then you are SOL. The PDF would have to have been generated from an editable document to begin with. |
Infix can do it. Can even do the scanned stuff as well using an OCR engine that they developed, it then can mimic the original text and edit it back in. It's not cheap though.
Infix PDF Editor - View, Edit, Create, Translate and Convert | Iceni Technology We have this at work since we constantly let developers go and we need to update documentation. |

Acrobat Pro has the tools, but the file must have the same requirements as described by stomachmonkey. There are many other Acrobat-compatible software tools available. AP is a little pricey.

Adobe Standard can edit unprotected PDF files, if they were generated from a text based program (like MS Word, Excel or Power Point). It cannot directly edit images or Scanned documents. The editing is not exactly the best and can cause formating problems if you're not careful.
If it is a scanned document, you can save the document as a .JPG and then edit with a photo editor and convert back to .PDF with Adobe. I do this with some faxes I receive, to get rid of lines and to straighten out the image. I also go this route when I need to send a client a vendor document and it has pricing embeded in a scanned document. |
I recently was asked to fill out a patient information form from a Drs office. They asked me to download it from their web site and fill it in before I came in. It was a protected PDF format. They expected me to print it out and hand write all the information. I used PhotoShop to import the PDF and then I filled out all the information using a font that looks like nice handwriting, that I made in blue. There were some questions I was not going to answer like my SSN. I just made those go away. The nurse was puzzled how I did it and even said she thought the file had to be printed and filled out. I told her I prefer to type.
