I watched that race, and I was flat astonished that those guys walked off. It was a scary wreck to watch on TV, I can't imagine what it was like to live it.

Road racing motorcyclists are the bravest racers on the planet, in my humble opinion.

Man, that almost looked like an intentional brake lever "swipe" by Herrin (#8). Watch the second vid above from 25sec. on.

I still have not heard what regulations make it possible for a team to switch engines in the middle of the race and allow the rider to continue riding, and restart on the front row, after he quit the race while it was under a green flag. Completely wrong at so many levels in my mind.

And to think, he blamed Dane, the other rider. Said Dane moved up on him....

Some of the slower riders had planned to do the whole race on one front tire and Dunlop knew this. The AMA threw a red flag at just under half distance, because Dunlop was wanting the teams to not run the whole race on one front tire, after some of the front tires began overheating and Dunlop feared the worst. Since the red flag was thrown, the running order backed up one lap, at which point DiSalvo was still running. The AMA allows teams to work on their bikes during a red flag period this year. There was enough time to do the engine change, so they did it. All legal, by the rules. DiSalvo got lucky. One more lap and he'd have been toast.
