selling a scatter spoon, Mossberg 500a 12ga, price?
My mother moved, and didn't want the shotgun that my dad used to keep at the house, so she gave it to me.
I don't need/want it, so I've decided to sell. I know they aren't terribly expensive or as well thought of as the Rem 870. Any idea of a quick sell price where I'm not screwing myself but I also don't end up waiting forever?? It's a 12 Gauge Mossberg 500a with wood stock and 24" rifled barrel chambered for 2 3/4" and 3" shells. Other than that, I don't know anything about it's history or anything else. What, $100, $150, $200? ![]()

Looks like it has rifle sights? Is that a slug barrel? Is the barrel rifled?

Yes, the barrel is rifled, and the rear sight folds flat, but would look like normal iron sights if it was flipped up.

It having a rifled slug barrel ads a lot of value. At least $100 IMHO. These type of shotguns are used for deer hunting in areas that only allow shotguns because they shoot a sabot slug much better than buckshot or a smooth bore with a rifled slug. Your dad used to live in the Midwest?
Anyways, do a little more research, you may have a $300 shotgun there. ![]() George |

Thanks George. I know next to nothing about Shotguns. I guess I need to do some more poking around.

Looks like the barrel can be purchased for around $150 +-$20 on the net.

It definitely is a $200 shotgun with that rifled barrel. Like Steve found out, the barrel alone is a $100 item.
I would advertise on a local gun web site where it is free and start out on the higher end. It is only 20 seconds to bump a post every 3 days and mark it down $50 ever 2 weeks it doesn't sell. George |

Sorry I don't know why I missed that barrel. Forget what I suggested above!

Have seen several like that in various local gun shows for $150-200 or so.

Steve, I take it you've looked down the tube to see that it was indeed rifled and not just having rifle sights. I haven't seen many Mossbergs of the vintage of yours that would spin a slug but there could be a few. It would change the potential market, ie almost everyone could use a 12 ga, but the market for a rifled one is smaller (but still a demand nontheless).
