Shipping Question
Why do I get a $100 estimate from the web UPS site and a $248 estimate from the local UPS Store? Same size, same weight, same destination.
|
I think the UPS Stores, being independent franchises, are free to set their own mark-up and pricing.
|
+! UPS store is a rip off; and I don't know why. If you can make an account and set up a shipment from home, you can save a lot of dough.

The local UPS distribution center for the North side of Atlanta is about 15 miles away. When I offered up my SC trombone oil cooler here on Pelican classifieds for free - just pay shipping - I was out of pocket about $7. I used the UPS site for postage costs and when I went to ship it, the guy (owner) told me the only way to get that rate is to drop it off at their distribution center. |
The problem with setting up an account is that after the pkg ships, they bill you for overages and extra charges.
UPS did that to me when I shipped wheels/tires to Canada. Just my .02 Quote:

Bend over....indy franchise. When there is a claim, THEY are the shipper not you. Avoid at all coast.

ups store
Yes I agree, The ups stores are major ripoffs. Look at the ups rates and you would epect the ups store to offer the same rate. Not ! Those are independently held stores that mark up the rates 10 fold, have hardly any training in packaging,
and have claims galore. Two have closed in my area already. I will never set foot in one of those stores again!!!! |
Don't know if they still allow it. I used to purchase charges on line, print a label and drop off. As long as the weight and oversized/if any was cool. Never a problem.
