Sugar'n time

Sun is out- snow is melting- roads are axle deep in mud and the sap is running.
Nothing better than a visit to the neighbors sugar house.
Pumping in a fresh load of sap.

Stoke'n the fire

and it comes out here

Nice to get out and visit after being cooped up all winter

We love maple syrup, too, and it sure beats loading up with all of that high-fructose corn syrup and other chemical-laden name brand "syrups".

That said, what is a good source for a reasonably priced maple syrup? $16.00 for a half a pint or whatever of the Maple Groves Farms syrup from the local grocery is a bit hard to swallow, no pun intended.

Any good suggestions for buying in "bulk"?

Thanks,

JA

where are you?

I get it in bulk from my neighborhood "health" food store...

cheaper, Grade B is good for cooking.

What do you consider bulk. How much are you talking about?
The brother to the man in the pictures sells in (i think 40 gal) barrels.

Holy carp! I was just thinking maybe a gallon or so? How well does maple syrup keep?

Thanks,

JA

By the way, I am in Kansas City.

It'll keep for years. Some times it will develop a mold but it's easily removed and is still usable.
We're still using last years supply.
I didn't think to ask about prices this year but i can check tomorrow if you'd like and PM you.

Nice operation.

One of my Brothers-in-law has an operation with 80,000 taps. I've got to get up there this week!
We go through a couple of gallons of maple /year.
Oh yummy!

An ex GF used to say to me... Sugar'n time

She used a sugar paste she made herself to remove her body hair. True story...
