Anyone know about Beeeeeees

We have had a bee hive in a pepper tree outside our back door for years and this morning I came out to find this. Looks like Jones town.
Were these liberal bees that drank too much of the Obama Koolaid?
Just kidding, but seriously, any idea what happened ?

any pesticide spraying w/in a couple of miles of the hive recently?

pesticides, even if non-lethal, can weaken the bees defenses to viruses, etc. and lead to CCD as per post 2

Our fruit (mac nuts, avocados and oranges) is certified organic so we use no pesticides on the property. The surrounding groves and nurseries also tend to be organic so I would hope to rule out chemical contamination.

We have a few hives on the property to pollinate the groves so I hope this loss is limited to one hive and not wide spread.

bees will fly 1,2,3 miles maybe to get pollen - that's why the usage by surrounding properties is important

try call UC Davis Agr. Ext. and talking to them

When we use bees in filming we know that they will leave the hive and circle for a few miles and orient themselves and come back in a few hours. We have to plan for that.
