Test drove an 86 corvett, and an 86 carrera back to back this morning.

This time of year, all of the cool cars start to come out of the woodwork for service, which is always welcomed by me after a long winter of fixing pickup trucks, and suv's. Anyhow finished up a bunch of maintenance work on the Vette yesterday, and had to test drive it first thing this morning . The next job was the carrera with brake issues so I took it for a quick spin around the block to verfy the complaint.
Man what a difference. I used to be into Corvette's before the Porsche bug bit me. It was fun to compare two top dog sports cars from the same era. I'll be keeping my Porsche , thank you!

I'd be curious about comparing the 2006 versions...

I took a 2006 C6 Vette and a 2006 997 (and a few others) for hot laps around the Milwaukee mile road course. The Vette and the 997 were pretty even. The 997 could carry more speed into corners, but the Vette was faster out of them. The 997 felt more delicate, like a dancer. The Vette felt much more forceful, like a UFC fighter. Both were a blast, and well beyond my talents behind the wheel. There were three race drivers on hand acting as instructors, and when they drove, it was impressive.

When I just turned 18 a friend of mine took me for a spin a then new Carrera 86. I knew that one day...I needed two C4's before realizing that I really wanted an 86.

How about a well set up '86 Corvette? I've been in one at the track and they are fun. I just don't think GM put their best foot forward on showroom models. Porsche always has.
