Well, we set up the new shop today - move almost done
 

Our move is nearly done. We should be done cleaning and clearing out the odds and end on Thursday...talk about last minute.

So, over the weekend we tore down and hauled over 99% of the shop stuff. Today my assembly guy was left here to set up, arange, and organize as best he could whiel I was over tending to carpet cleaners and cleaning stuf.

I get a call.

"Houston, we have a biiiig problem" says he.

"The outlets don't work"

I tell him to check the garage outlets.
Nada.

After dinking around a bit more, he finds a total of TWO outlets that work.:eek:
One is on the ceiling:rolleyes:....controlled by a light switch.

By my count, we need 12 at a minimum And at least three different circuits...

Better get a lot of extension cords and surge protectors. :D

Well at least you have outlets to trouble shoot. Being an electronics guy, this should be a POC for you. Get what electricians call a 'tone' for tracing if the problem isn't apparent after you open each box.

Then you'll know how many individual circuits there are. You may have to run a home run for your more hungry devices and install a dedicated circuit. An efficient way to provide additional circuits is to put in a sub panel. You could probably get away with a 30A 220v spit up into lighting and a couple of outlets, another bank of outlets and a dedictated 20A outlet for your wax pot.

Obviously, you won't be able to run the table saw and everything else at the same time. And, you may be shy of meeting code, but I ain't tellin'. ;)

Speaking of the new shop. I was poking around for garage tables the other day on CL, and found a couple that would probably be pretty handy for making pickups.

Pizza prep stations. Nice cleanable stainless tops, and 20+ condiment trays that you could change in and out based on the parts you were using at the time. Drawers too, and one I saw had some shelving on one side.

Fairly expensive example because of the built in fridges, but gives you the idea.

That table would be AWESOME for this kind of work! Too bad it won't fit in the new space :(



Got a call from thier maintenance guy yesterday, They'll be out Saturday morning to take a look. Said they'd call an electrician if it came down to it.


Milt.. I dion't mess with high voltage stuff. It scares the crap out of me. I've wanted to get into amps for a few years now but.... did I mention it scares the crap out of me?

Wolfe, if you're not comfortable with line voltage, don't mess with it. I do think everyone ought to learn the basics, though. Start by turning the power off. The whole main panel if that's what makes you comfortable. White to white, color to color other than green. Green and bare all bundled up together in each box.

I remember the first time I wired in a new circuit to an existing panel that was hot. I really couldn't kill the whole house because of so many things to reset. I was shaking like a leaf. Now I stick my hand in there like it's a bowl of noodles. Just got to know which noodle not to touch. :)

Old TV's and their capacitor is what scares the hell out of me.

LL should fix all of this quickly so it doesn't interfere w/business.

I've heard one should touch the wire with the back of the fingers first. The Greenlee tester can be used on the runs exiting the box to check if the problem isn't the breaker/box itself.

There are smaller tables, I've seen some as small as the 5'x3' range.

Just keep pizza prep in mind as a search term now and then, I thought it looked like it'd be handy. :)
