Cyclists, need help pricing these bikes
So my mom and I decided to look into selling some of my Dads old bikes he was big into mountain and road biking and road some pretty high performance stuff I will be keeping at least 1 mountain bike to trail ride but just wanted some opinions because I know there are some cyclists on pp. Anyway here are the pics, 4 bikes total. They had been sitting for a while so I just dusted them off real quick and grabbed some pics.
1st up is a Gary Fisher Genesis I believe http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301686335.jpg Carbon Fiber bars & brake levers along with the thumb and first finger style shifter not really sure what the real name for that style of shift mechanism is. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301686354.jpg Shot of the Manitou forks, hayes disk brakes and tubeless Mavic wheels http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301686624.jpg Shot of the Crank w/ eggbeaters http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301686690.jpg Model info http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301686727.jpg 2nd up is the Giant also has mavic wheels, tubeless http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687004.jpg Carbon bars & shift levers same shifters as the genesis http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687042.jpg Shot of the RaceFace cranks shows some of the wear on this bike. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687103.jpg |
3rd up is a Giant Road bike Carbon Fiber everything.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687376.jpg shot of the forks and brakes http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687400.jpg Mavic wheels http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687483.jpg Shot of the bars showing the only damage/wear on this bike also has the brake handle paddle shifters http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687505.jpg Shot of the deraileur http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...ur+RGi13016875 Last but not least is the DeRosa custom tailored to his specs I believe 220 6'4 a sexy sexy bike has cane creek wheels, paddle shifters and egg beaters http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687764.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687788.jpg Ugo's signature http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1301687801.jpg |
First bike ask 1200 take anything close to 1k
Second bike ask 600-700 take 4 or 5 Road bike ask 1,400 stay firmer... DeRosa no clue. Those are pretty loose figures based on pics without knowledge of condition miles ect. |
Nice bikes.
I would keep the Fisher, and put the other three on ebay with no reserve and as many details and pictures as you can. You will definitely need to list measurements for the DeRosa. I think Mike's numbers are fairly close. |
Thanks for the ballparks, I have more pics I just put up the ones to give a general pictures of the bikes from what I remember about bikes. All the bikes are in used but very good condition mechanically and would really shine with a wash he took great care of his bikes.
Cosmetically the Fish is probably the best I would give it a 90% the only real scuff is that shot of the crank and that's pretty good for a mountain bike the giant mtn bike would probably be around a 75% it's got a few chips on the trailing arms and the cranks the giant road bike probably 85% the body is pretty flawless just the brake lever on the left side is scratched up as shown in the picture but other than that the carbon just looks amazing the DeRosa is 95% no chips or dents only has a little scuffed crank Kind of tough to estimate mileage but I think I could come up with something |
The only thing that would concern me as a buyer are those shots of rusty bolts (for instance #2) and pedals. I would sell the pedals separately and either replace or avoid showing the bolts. Maybe replace those dingy yellow grips with some fresh black ones, too.
Or, just don't worry about it. |
How do you know if the DeRosa is a custom job? People always say that. What are your goals? I would take the Giant. I say 12-1600 bucks. the De Rosa would run around 900 bucks. The giant is going to be a whole lot faster bike. The Derosa, well, its a De Rosa. I buy that out of emotion. I know nothing about the mtbs.

The DeRosa is worth maybe $900 or a bit more as stated on E Bay... There's always a market for Italian Steel.
It's not custom... Just old school inch sizing. |
Yeah sorry I guess I just didn't state it clearly it's not custom but the frame was fit to his size, I know he did get measured for the bike when be ordered it.
Of course the Giant is going to be faster it's ridiculously light and newer that's why the DeRosa was put on the trainer. Still a gorgeous bike though. So far looking at rough ballparks all + or - Gf - $1100 Giant Mtb - $600 Giant Rb - $1400 DeRosa - $900 We might end up just keeping this guy just for the sentimental value Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it. |
lighter does always mean faster. Sorry, I did not read through your post. Now that I have, keep the De Rosa. No question about it. I raced on many Italian jobs from the 80 and early 90s. There always will be a place in my heart for them, so I am bias.

I'd take everyone's suggested prices and lop off a third, maybe half. The secondary bike market is very soft these days.
BTW, the De Rosa will get you the most money, though I doubt you'd get close to $900 without (period correct) Campy components. |
FWIW, I agree with dd74. Used bikes don't fetch a lot. I don't see $1400 for the Giant. The frame is a commodity now, and these bike weenies want the latest and greatest. This time of year is good for selling, though. Check eBay pricing.
FWIW, a couple years ago, I bought a steel Torelli road bike with 10 speed Daytona components for just over $500 + shipping off eBay. That bike is comparable to the DeRosa, I think. jurgen |

SoCal that probably makes some of the prices a little more achievable. We don't really need the money but it would be nice to have a little extra cash and clean up the garage a little.

DeRosa's are nice but the very large size will not be popular. All the bikes were nice in their time but times have changes and used bikes are a dime a dozen. Best price will be on ebay. 750 would be ok, If you get close to 1K on any bike, you have done well.
I was sales manager at high performance bike shop for 7 years and into bikes all my life. |
