Pelicans Down Under
Saw these on a ferry trip from a town called Tea Gardens to Port Stephens on a boat that reminded me of a big African Queen, we kept looking for Bogey and Kate.

saw a documentry on australian pelicans last night and how around 1/3 of the population fly hundreds even a thousand miles or more into the outback every 10 years or so during the flooding of a salt flat there. since it only floods enough to fill once a decade or so the doc was trying to answer how they know when to go. pretty cool stuff. the ones that hang by the coast and don't make the trip are often fed by coastal visitors and garbage dumps. they believe the ones that go are of the same groups generation after generation.
