I should be arrested and be put in jail, at least according to Rick! So when did a CCW toting guy like Rick decide it was OK for the govt to put me in jail when I wandered out of my lane while driving? Are you guys really that comfortable with other people controlling your lives to that extent? I mean, that's OK with you? Personally, I appreciate a little leeway, and a little faith that I have half a brain in my skull that allows me to survive another day. Yes, I know the vast majority of the unwashed masses have no brains in their skulls, because, yeah, they don't own a Porsche and aren't as smart as we are. I get it.

I don't know what a CCW has to do with driving while distracted. But since you've taken a page from Shaun's How-To-Troll manual (second edition), I'll feed you a bit.

When I CCW, the gun is 100% in my control at all times, as are my emotions and actions. There is an absolute zero chance of someone getting hurt by accident and about the same by design. When you wander into the next lane, you're throwing a few thousand lbs. of steel around with ZERO regard for what you could be hitting, like the motorcycle in your blind spot. How is that any different from my firing a gun aimlessly into a crowd and then claiming it's no problem because I didn't hit anyone? YES, you SHOULD be arrested. Worse than a DUI, you know you do this, continue to do it and think it's just fine. Outrageous. I know you have more assets to lose than most of us here, so I hope you're well insured. You're a giant lawsuit waiting to happen.

I like you, you are one of my favorite posters here.

You don't like other people controlling your life. We agree, I don't like other people controlling my life. I don't like it being put at risk by inattentive drivers. I don't like my daily commute impeded by distracted drivers. So no, that's not OK with me.

Personally, I could give a rats ass whether or not someone else survives another day. I care that me and mine survive another day. I'm selfish like that.

You think this is about you, It's really about me, (and Rick)

Rick, its good to hear that you trust the government to protect you against people like me. :)

Rick Lee 04-06-2011 08:34 PM

I don't trust the gov't. anymore than I do the guy next to me on the road.

I'm with you 100%. But, when does it all stop? How far will it go? What's next? GPS? Your stereo? Kids in the back seat? Worked too many hours today? Cameras at every intersection recording everything? Personally, I like to do my thing unimpeded. But, I'm selfish like that.

I used to be whole-heartedly for the no-cell law. Or at least hands free like in Kalifornia.

But then I spent a week in Massachusetts, where it's OK to drive with a cell in hand. And it made no real difference in cr@ppy driving. Distracted drivers are distracted drivers. Good drivers are good drivers. If you pay attention to your mirrors and traffic patterns around you (situational awareness), you'll do it no matter if there's a phone in your hand or if you're using a Bluetooth connection.

I don't know how you write into law that you're not supposed to be driving around with your head up your rear end.

I'm with Motion, no more enforcement. If I hit a biker while on my phone with a brew between my legs, I mean, who are they to stop me? i have rights to do whatever I want.

Sorry, rest of the world and all.
But I have driven through every country from here to Panama and just because those countries don't ban, if they don't ban cell phones while driving isn't a good reason.
They turn their left turn signal on when they are going to make a right turn, is that good too?

You're describing a minute portion of the general cell-phone-talking population. And I never said I was for drunk driving. Up until a couple years ago, you could drive while drinking in Montana. Sadly, that right is now gone :(

motion 04-06-2011 08:58 PM

I used to be able to ride without a helmet in Kalifornia, too, but that's gone as well. Thank you, insurance lobbyists and dumb$hit lemming voters.

Hey Deano - just got back from 8 days in Costa Rica on a Honda XR250... mostly offroad. I know you've been there plenty. Epic!
