Chinese translation for a funky statue from Beijing

Hi,

I just got back from a trip and I always try to bring back something unusual from my trips. This was my first time in Beijing and at the markets bought the funkiest thing I could find that would fit in my bag and get through Customs.

Its ceramic, about 12"x8"Wx18"L and glazed in at least 8 colors with lots of brushwork. Obviously the most interesting bit about this piece is its imperialistic/patriotic symbolism.

The pics are from my BB, so sorry about the quality. There are three characters (bureaucrat/red army soldier/farmer?) with various items like Mao's little red book, AK-47 and sheaf of wheat. 5 munitions shells on end in front. The characters are straddling a missile with fins in back and lettering on the side. The base appears to be symbolic of clouds or waves.

I dont know what the letters say, I like to imagine its something like "Death to the Enemy" or "From China with Love" but I'd really love to know what it actually says on the scroll and on the side of the missile.

Can you help with a translation?

Thanks!

Per the wife, the rocket says, "Chinese rocket"

The scroll says, "exceeding the UK, catching up with the US"

This is from 50-60's. Evidently the scroll is a historical propaganda saying.

Thats a pretty cool piece. I think your instinct for 'funky' was well placed. Marketable piece now, and who knows the the future will bring.
