On a serious note, anyone that truly wonders why should just read the "Armed citizen" column in American Rifleman every month.

I carried in the Grand Canyon yesterday.....totally legally. My hoplophobic German friend saw a few of those gunbusters signs on some of the buildings and even thought they were a joke. She asked why anyone bent on mayhem would care about those signs and why good guys like myself should be barred from carrying there.

Now why the Devil would someone need to carry a gun in the Grand Canyon? Were you planning on shooting a moose and having it for lunch ?

There are no moose in the Grand Canyon.

Please tell me you're joking. I don't NEED to carry a gun in the tourist areas of the park, but there's three hours of driving between my house and there and millions of acres of wilderness and zero cell phone coverage. What would you do in a remote part of a national park if you needed help? Get down and pray that an unarmed park ranger stumbles upon you before bad things happen?

BWAAAH! Funny. All the gun packers would wind up shooting at each other from opposite sides of the canyon as soon as one of them fired the first shot at a sparrow. I guess it makes them feel safer (or more Macho in front of German tourists??) to carry a gun when they are in a high crime area like the Grand Canyon.

Oh.. I guess you are right Dave. I was thinking of that Gal in Alaska who hunts the Moose from helicopters. For sport.
I think that would be more sporting if the Moose were armed with SAMs.

Is there a high crime problem in those "millions of acres of wilderness" ? Are you planning on using that gun as a cell phone substitute? Who ya gonna call on that thing ? Admit it, the gun thing just makes you feel better. Especially in front of a German tourist. Kinda a security blanket. Its OK Rick. Give it up.

Whew. Now I know you're joking. I was pretty sure no one on this BBS was that ignorant. Though I have been surprised before. BTW, have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? Can you name any handguns that could fire a bullet across it, even at its most narrow point?

Yes, it is a bit of a security blanket, just like all the fire extinguishers I keep around the house, but have never used. I wonder why Park Police officers carry guns, since there's obviously nothing to worry about in national parks.

Good grief Rick. Go back to PARF. I dont know anything about handguns or any other guns. But I saw the Grand Canyon from an airplane a few times. And I have stayed at a Holiday Inn MANY times.

That's a good-looking moose. But no way he's packing heat. Where would he hide it?
