Gas Ranges

Tapping into the brain trust here. Looking to move to a decent gas range....cant swing a Wolf or DCS, but more like a Bertazzoni or Electrolux Icon. Something <$3k. What say you?

Do some Google searches and see what the feedback is. This appliance website (ApplianceGuru.com: The Samurai Appliance Repair Forums) is an excellent resource!

About two years ago, we bought an Electrolux dual range - gas stove/electric oven - & we are extremely happy. Our previous POS was a glasstop electric which I would never buy again due to the cleaning. My BIL has a Wolf or similar & he complains that the complete lack of programmability in the gas oven is a pain. He wished he had gotten a dual like ours.

Second on the dual fuel Electrolux.

-True convection with, I think, three elements (sp.) in the oven.
-Very unique ball bearing oven racks that extend almost all the way out. I've not seen this on any other stove and can't believe everyone isn't copying it.
-The top mounted knobs and touch screen screen are a little odd at first but so much more conveinant. You don't bend over to make inputs.
-The built in meat thermomater is great, very accurate and has visible display on the horizontal screen as well as allowing you to set an alarm when meat reaches temp.
-Simmer setting on main burner is nice to have.
-Two real ovens with seperate timers and controls.

The stove lacks the home/industrial looks of some other ranges (notabley the GE Cafe in the same price range) but has a load of features that are truely useful.

We did have a board problem with the touch screen but it was replaced under warrenty and I was told by the tech (who I know and trust) that the company had resolved the problem.

I should ad, however, that intall was a PIA. I was building my own home and was able to move the gas and electric myself or it would have been costley. Check the specs as there is a limited opening for hook up due to the lower oven.

You might keep an eye out for a nice pre-owned unit (Thermador, Wolf, Viking, DCS, Gaggenau, Elecrolux, Dacor, BlueStar, Five Star, etc.).

If it fits the bill, this Viking seems like a good deal (and shouldn't be too far away):
Viking 48" Gas Stove / Range / 6 Burners and Grill(syracuse)

Here are a couple good deals locally in PHX (even considering freight):
48" WOLF Stainless Steel Natural Gas Range Stove! Model#R486C
THERMADOR 48" DUEL FUEL GAS RANGE OVEN STOVE

As a cook, one thing I really like is the continuous flat surface of the 3 pc grates on the Electrolux.

I have a KitchenAid gas/gas slide in. Has been pretty good and reliable. I do not like the burners though. They do not concentrate the heat well on the smaller burner. The large burner is a flame thrower though and can be adjusted for smaller pots.

Several years ago I bit the bullet and bought a Jade all stainless commercial 6 burner with a grill. It is a tad wide at 48 inches but completely pops apart for easy cleaning as expected with a commercial range. The two biggest issues were the price, around $5000 or so and the weight which is 450 pounds. We have an open crawl space under the main part of the house but so far no issues.

Take a look at a Bosch. We really like it! It is definitely better than a Kitchen Aid and GE Profile we had in previous houses.

My wife picked up our 36" DCS for $2600.00 plus $300.00 delivery off of Ebay. I couldn't believe it myself until it arrived. They normally go for around $6500.00

I'll 2nd Hugh's comments about used and Thermador. The downside is that you have to be patient. For awhile I looked at any Wolf on CL nationwide using Tempest. I might take a week and it might take 5 months to find something decent for a good price.

Lots of crap for sale.

I have had a dacor in my last house. It was ok.
I bought a wolf for this house. Expensive PIA to clean. Works great. I would second the look for a second hand wolf comment. They rock.
