Need some cojmputer help
 

I am in the middle of another hard drive crash. Any, how I got a new lap top, and am in the process of trying to transfer all of my Shop management software, and repair information over to my new lap top.
The stuff is all from Mitchell, and it requires an Install DVD, along with a matching floppy disc to install. My lap top does not have a floppy drive. How can I do this? Can I do this? Can I link my old computer to the laptop, to access the install info on the floppy disc?

This will not be the 1st time they have run into this.

You could try turning the floppy into an ISO image, put floppy in old computer, generate ISO image, put image on a thumbdrive, pop into laptop and mount.

You could plug your computer and laptop into a "home network" hub, like NetGear hub or LinkSys hub using two CAT5 cables. Then, share out your floppy drive on the old computer with the Mitchell floppy installed.

I have done this several times re-installing the Mitchell ShopKey software.

1) Create a folder/directory on the "new" laptop system called ShopKey.
2) Copy all the data that you have into this folder.
3) Run the install from the shared floppy drive.


When done, the install program will run and display a "key" and you will need to call Mitchell with this information for them to translate into a new running key on the new laptop.

Ed, it sounds like his old PC is no longer functioning from the HD crash. Might make it a bit difficult.

I suppose there is no solution if that is the case. LOL

Of course, if it were me, I could extract the data from the old "crashed" disk drive and use that data for a new install/copy to the laptop.

Certainly, I understand alot of what we are talking about here is above the scope of most users abilities. Sounds like an opportunity for both of us to start a company, huh?

I have MOD5 and have tried every way from Sunday to get that to install with out a real floppy drive and it just won't work. The USB drive does work fine and is my suggestion also.

Thanks guys, I was up until 1;30 last night trying to transfer over all of my documents etc. I did manage to get my pc to boot back up, and it was still functioning when I left. I was trying to do this after hours , way too much chaos during the day. Some smart fellas here!
After this is complete, I will have stepped into the 21 st century. I finally went wireless, and will now have all my repair information right on my workbench instead of running up to the computer every 5 minutes for information
