Nashville

My wife is going to Nashville, or a town close Monday, she will be there for two days on business, she has the room at the Hyat and a rental car. I could go and cruise Nashville for two days, would it be worth it, what is there to do that is different. Probably won't be doing much out at night.

Stockyard for steaks, Neeley's for barbeque. What else is there?

If you're not going out at night, don't bother. I was in Memphis once and stopped by Sun Records and hit Beale Street. I wish I had the time to stay longer.

Nashville has to have more of the same.

Ichiban for Japanese food is right across the street from the Wild Horse. Lots of great live music (not just country music, which I personally cannot tolerate). Great restaurants, nice to walk down by the river, very cool people.

What's she doing there?

My dad died there in 2006 and I had to make 5-6 trips there to settle his estate between 2006-2008.

If you are in and around downtown, you'll be fine. Just know that everything closes at 10:00 p.m. on weekdays.

If you are outside of the "inner loop", kill yourself now. The town is impossible to get around. The interstates and roads form concentric circles around downtown. It is physically possible to be going southbound on Briley Parkway while going north (or vice-versa). Everything closes at 5:00 p.m.. Rush hour is from 4-5, and then everything shuts down. Except restaurants, they close at 7:00 on week nights. Going straight east, west, north, or south, may take changing interstates 3 times in 4 miles, while having to exit left, right, left to keep going in the same direction. There are only a handful of bridges over the Cumberland, so even if you can see the place you want to go to, you might have to go 15-20 miles around to get there. This also goes for parts of the city that are at different elevations. "Pikes" are roads that form concentric circles around downtown, but they change names 3-4 times. Other roads are "spokes" that radiate around town. Well, except for Briley Parkway, that road was designed by a city planner that threw a piece of spaghetti at the map. If you are used to a grid, prepare to be frustrated (or homicidal).

If you're into museums, need to check out the Parthenon and The Hermitage. Otherwise, head to downtown and visit all of the clubs along Broadway. To get an idea of what's on Broadway, take a look at this link:

Lower Broadway, Nashville, Tennessee

What Legion said about the Interstate and roads is true, so make sure you do a thorough map recon and buckle-up!

Having grown up in Nashville, I find that response to be pure poetry.

It's ok, even though I have the miles and could fly free I am going to stay home, the weather should be good here and I have things to do. Maybe next time.
That and it looks like thunder storms and rain for the days I would be there.
