2012 Beetle

Anybody else seen this? I think I like it. I know I'm in love with that interior...

Nice- with a TDI, it could be a great commuter, run about.

The line distinguishing the VW Beetle from the Audi TT continues to blur.

azasadny 04-22-2011 11:08 AM

Looks very nice!

Dottore 04-22-2011 11:08 AM

It's been getting great press here in Germany in the last few days.

I hope they are better built and more reliable near the 100k mileage mark than my daughter's POS 2000 Beetle or my old POS twin turbo A6. ;)

I think it is an improvement but this makes me want to stomp on infants.

Wow that looks much more like the original bloodline.

That is the best looking beetle I've seen in years. Photshop is your friend.

teenerted1 04-22-2011 02:37 PM

not sold on it yet. the seats look too mini/fiat 500 for me.
somewhere i read they wanted to get back to basics on this car. where is the metal dash and the single gauge?

and the thing still only does 29mpg gas? come on they were doing that in the 60's

at least they got rid of the flower pot

911FASCINATION 04-22-2011 02:47 PM

Looks more masculine in the latest iteration, I think. Suprised it only gets 29 mpg though, it would seem with gas prices going up they'd be doing much better than that.

The 1967 Deluxe sedan was the last, best VW beetle. These new cars are interesting in their own right, huge improvements in many respects, and I'd love to own one. But this attempt to link them with the spirit of the air cooled, swing axle cars is nonsense. The VW 111 went off in its own direction and waited 15 years to let the market come to them, the new cars pander to the market and will be canceled in a year if they aren't an instant "hit."

DonDavis 04-22-2011 03:44 PM

Honestly, my first thought was "fat 911". I don't care for it.

Agreed... they may have killed the golden goose... the beetle was sold on being "cute" (flower vase built into dash, flower wheels and taillights available)

Guys who wanted a VW would buy a GTI not this thing, and I don't think the ladies will be drawn to it.

YMMV

gtc 04-22-2011 04:07 PM

Damn. That thing's so friggin' ugly, I'd even take a mustang over it.
