Fuji X-100

I have been reading rave reviews about this camera for a while and have decided that it is a "must-have" toy. It was supposed to come on the market in early April, but the shops here in Germany tell me the launch has been delayed to some uncertain date because of Fukushima.

I have heard though that various shops in the UK and US have already had allocations. Do any of you camera guys know of a source where these cameras are already available???

I checked bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com and robertscamera.com - all big shops with good reputations and they all list it as either pre-order with no arrival date, or new product with no arrival date known.

Thanks for that.

I'll try to be patient a while longer.

don't know where to get it, but reidreviews.com has a review of it (you have to pay, but Sean Reid is a great photog and does amazing gear reviews and other articles. You can at least see if you really do want to spend the money for it.

Bump.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen these yet? My local shop is now saying October or November.

FUJIFILM appreciates your patience and will provide a formal update as soon as possible.

There are at least three used ones for sale here: Buy & Sell Photo-Gear - FM Forums each about $1400 or so.
There is an interesting review (free) here:Fujifilm X100 Test Report
BTW I've been shooting with a Panasonic Micro Four Thirds G2 with an Olympus 17 2.5 which is a similar concept. I find the tilt swivel screen and interchangeable lenses (I have the 7-14 and the 14-140) more useful than a fixed focus rangefinder )albeit with a very cool viewfinder and a better sensor.

Great info thanks.

How about a nice half case?

No zoom?

My point and shoot pocket sized Fuji JZ500 has a 10X zoom, love it. Oh, and it sells for 1/10th the price.;)

From the review looks like some after-market software is in order.

That earthquake in Japan sure did mess things up.

matthew-s 05-27-2011 06:51 AM

Dottore,

Don't you have an X1? Or maybe that was Nostatic?

Anyway - go visit Steve Huff's blog for his personal X1 and X100 comparisons.

sc_rufctr 05-27-2011 07:18 AM

And the real deal... ;)

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but this review uses that phrase.

Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 Review

The Fujifilm JZ500 takes decent photos and offers a beginner the flexibility of a 10x optical zoom in a fairly compact camera body.
The discontinued this model right after I bought it. Not sure what the closest replacement is.

The only downsides are the body is a little slippery - leave the stickers on. Also the 10X zoom works in video mode, however it's out of focus while zooming in and out and the mic picks up the mechanical noise. You have to spend twice as much on the Panasionic to get around this and it's picture quality is not as good (from what I've read).

I recently took photos of some young foxes outside of their mothers foxhole. My wife thinks we may be able to sell them, so I have not posted them yet. The 10X zoom comes in handy, those foxes can be shy.

Kach, no disrespect, but your camera is 1/10th the camera that dottore is talking about. The X100 is more of a pro camera, than just a point and shoot.

Dottore,

Any news or updates? Looks like the camera is out; I stumbled on a blog last-night that featured some shots taken with this piece. Phenomenal. That last photo just might cost me...

Nice quality.

sc_rufctr 08-17-2011 05:05 AM

I held one recently and it feels good in the hands. The view finder is interesting but I didn't have time to try it out.

I really like this camera but the fixed lens is an issue for me. It's a great lens but what if they made it to take Micro four third lenses?

Maybe the next model will.

This one has my attention these days.... must..... resist......

Maybe too simply, but,

Optical Zoom is done with the lens; you maintain picture quality.

Digital Zoom is done digitally and as you 'zoom' the pic quality degrades; you're only blowing up the original image. Gets 'fuzzy' as the pixels get bigger.
