Tornadoes in St. Louis!
Lambert Field just got hit by a tornado, reports of blown out windows, and vehicle damage. This tornado was traveling east along I - 70. Doppler radar indicated another possible tornado along the southern edge of the city traveling east. No reports of any damage from the Cardinals game. i8 know we have a few members in that area. If you know them, you might want to check on them.

My parents live right next to hwy 70 near the airport (Bridgeton).
Lots of damage to their property. Windows blown out, trees down everywhere, siding missing, shed doors gone, the neighbors roof is in their backyard. Houses 1000' away did not fair as well. Pics to follow in the morning. Tornado missed my place New Years Eve by about 2 miles. Nasty year for storms and it ain't over yet. Haven't been to my shop yet which is also near the airport. I can still login to my server so apparently the building is still there. |
Sorry to hear this. People can't understand why I live in earthquake country, at least we don't have a "season" for them.

Lived with tornadoes my whole life. They always hit the rural areas.
This year they are taking out the suburbs. |
Randy, I hope everyone is fine, and safe. I live 80 miles or so South East, right in the middle of Southern Illinois, so in a bout 2 hours, it should get interesting around here. Just got my power back on yesterday, from Wednesday's Storms.

Thanks,
Everyone is safe. Power is going to be out for a while since most of the above ground lines are down. Be safe, it's a nasty one coming your way. |
Randy,
Any specifics on where EXACTLY there is damage? I have friends in St. Ann and Breckenridge Hills, and have been unable to reach them. I guess tornadoes are so spotty that it is impossible to tell if a whole neighborhood is safe or not! Thanks for the info. I will keep trying. JA |
My prayers go out to everyone out there.
Looks pretty bad on the video from CNN. My daughter will be traveling there Wednesday for her school robotics competition and she is still traumatized from the tornadoes we got here last week. |

I know people near the arch...any damage there? I'm not getting an answer on the phone. But thats not unusual for them.
|
I'm pretty sure it went north of the downtown area, so they might just be without power.
John, I hope she was driving there. The airport is closed indefinitely for repairs. I "think" they are re-routing all flights to Kansas City, or to a much smaller airport east of St. Louis, right by Scott Air Force Base, called Mid America. |

Well, that was a long day of cutting and digging out debris and trees just to get the driveway clear enough to get the bobcat up the hill to start removing the big stuff.
My parents house only has moderate damage compared to ones 100' away, but their property in general is wasted. My mom has been landscaping near daily for 10 years and in 1 minute, it is mostly gone. Almost every tree on the 1.5 acre property is gone or damaged enough that it has to come down. The 60-80' trees were a barrier to the noise from hwy 70 so that aspect will never come back in my lifetime. Everything can be rebuilt except for the mature trees. Mother Nature is a biitch. Thankfully about 35 family members and friends showed up to help. We had over 15 chain saws running all day long and we barely scratched the surface on the cleanup project. Most folks drove 1.5 hours to help. We made big piles out of bigger piles and logged the trees for the sawmill. We logged cherry and walnut. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654559.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654602.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654648.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654678.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654724.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654782.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654812.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654850.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654889.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1303654930.jpg |

Wow
That's some serious damage. Glad everyone is alright. Some of those trees (cherry and walnut) will be worth good money if cut up correctly. Shop around for wood prices in your area. Hope their ins. covers this. |
We cut all the cherry and walnut logs to 8'+ lengths. They head out tomorrow to the mill.
Insurance only covers damage to house, garage, shed and driveway. They pay for any tree removal involved in those areas. Everything else is limited to $500. Basically the clean up and the downed trees laying on grass are not covered. |
