Miele Vacuum - which do you have?

So, I've looked through some of the vacuum threads here, and I think I've decided to buy a Miele canister vacuum. I believe that it's a well made vacuum, quiet, etc.... The wife (and I admit, myself some) is having a hard time getting over the $850 price tag. We've got hard flooring except for a few rugs. Because of the rugs, I think we need the model with the electric wand/brush. If it wasn't for that, we could get the $500 model.

So, do you have a Miele, and if so what model?

Would you buy one again?

Have you had any problems with yours?

Do you have any complaints?

Does it have any inadequacies?

Tell me about it.

THanks

Our last vacuum was a Dyson DC07 Animal. It worked great (still does), but too much of it is plastic. I think it's 5-7 years old, we've replaced some parts that broke, and have several more parts that have broken that we haven't replaced. I think the replacement parts cost about $200.

Because of our hard floors, we end up using the dyson as a canister vac which is a huge pain. That's why we are going with a canister this time.

Why are you fixated on a Miele - not that there's anything wrong with that. Consumer Reports mostly rates Miele in the middle of their ratings. Looks like Kenmore & Hoover consistently rate higher/near the top. I'm one of those who consider their ratings before buying something they would test.

Aren't vacuums basically disposable these days?

Call me stupid, but I would rather buy a $100 vacuum every year than "invest" in a $850 vacuum... I need to go read up on Dysons to see what the rave is on those.

yeah, $850 seems ridiculous for a vacuum. I spent $79 for a Hoover at walmart two weeks ago, and it works terrific.

I know you don't want another Dyson, but this is for Neilk...
Dysons suck! Literally! I laughed/cried when the wife came home with one, until I saw it in action. We've had alot of vacuums under $250. Until she got the Dyson, I didn't realize she was just surface cleaning. Dysons just never stop sucking. Great for pet hair.

Carina. I think it is the same as the current Polaris (Amazon.com: Miele : S4212 Polaris Canister Vacuum Cleaner: Kitchen & Dining). Love it. Still works flawlessly after 4 or 5 years (lost track).

Miele Contour S5.
One of the only hepa rated vacuums that actually passed "emission tests. Great suction and great power head (at an extra cost).
Yes it was pricey to buy, but it came with a 10 year warranty.
We have hardwood and area rugs in the house and went through a few vacuums before getting this one. It works great.

I've got 2 of them (one upstairs one down) They work great. One is 12-15 years old the second ones 4-5 I don't know what model they look like the one Nostatic posted.
I hate junk even when it's cheap. Miele's are not junk. Also they're really quiet which I really like

We have Bosch, but my sister swears by Miele.

CR has rarely influenced me on true excellence, only on what breaks often.

Actually we have a central vacuum system. The vacuum unit runs on 220V and has a 12 gal. bag. We're really glad we have it.

Go to a vacuum repair shop and ask them what they think is the best.
Last time I was there paying $75 to get the wife's 2 year old electolux fixed (parts I could not source on my own, I tried) I was told that the electrolux was good but that a dyson is the worst POS made.
I bet they'd know what lasts and what doesn't.

My parents bought an expensive electrolux years ago (in the 70s). It lasted for years and was a great vacuum.

We loved our Dyson, it worked really well, it was just made of plastic so a lot of it has broken (teenage son and a crappy maid that didnt last long).

Roomba. Run it once a week when I go out grocery shopping. 2 tasks complete!

We bought a Bosch vacuum cleaner about 5 years ago and we love it, but Bosch is no longer selling them in the US. I order bags and filters online, but it's a shame they don't sell them here any longer, it's an awesome vacuum, especially with pet hair!

It's amazing how much cat hair this things pulls out of a "clean" carpet.

Its fun to watch the hair balls spin around in the canister. (I'm easily entertained)
