1970 E versus 1972T
Which would be a better street car? A 1970 E or 1972 T?
Comments welcome... Thanks, |
Yes stock.....
|
Might get better input from the 911 tech form.
|
it comes down to which transmission you prefer, the 901 or the 915.
I'd rather have the E myself. |
Red Delicious or Fuji? Both are tasty apples...

153 for the E, 140 for the T. |
the tranny is the biggie - the 901/911 trans. is much nicer than the new-fangled 915 UNLESS you are doing a lot of driving in heavy traffic (gridlock), where the straight 1-2 shift of the 915 would be best
of course, if you are stuck in gridlock all the time, why would you be in a 911? indeed, why be in a car at all... the E will have higher compression than the 2.4L also the adv. of the '72 is the oil door - you could modify it to alter the oil fill - I keep thinking about doing that on my '73 |
Was 72 the first year for the 915 trans? Also, would a T have an oil cooler?
|
1. yes
2. it might; if a PO added one |

The 72 cars have quite a following. I like the side oil tank.
All early 911s will need work so buy the car you like the best and build the HP you want. The one issue that is makes the 72 915 trans sort of a problem is the fact that you must disassemble the entire trans to replace the main shaft seal. |
Wont the 2.4T have more torque? I dont have the figures in front of me though...
|
Buy the one that's in better shape.
If that's about equal, buy the one with the color you like. If it's the same color...well, it gets tough from here... Of course, this is assuming you've driven both of them and still can't decide. |
Buy both?

Thanks for all of your comments.
I'm new to this vintage of Porsches. I've never driven anything ealier than a '78SC, so this will be a different experience no matter what route I take. Sadly, I can only own one Porsche at a time. Thanks again, |
Well, I wouldn't be too sad about having to have a long hood.
