can you use Xcopy in Win 7??
I keep getting an invalid drive designation error when I try...
I was trying to copy to D:\ which had a write enabled CD in it - problem with that media type? does Xcopy still work? (I may have forgotten the syntax by now) |
I use this program:
Copy your files faster with TeraCopy I was having trouble copying multi-GB files from my PC to my server and this program works well for me... |
xcopy is still included, and still works.
|
how do yo get into DOS box to use it?
does not work using my old fav., PowerDesk |
right click the start button and customize the menu, check the box for "run command."
|
Done (and thanks)
but... when I try to run it that way - it just flashes up a small box on the screen for 1/2 second; Alt-Tab reveals no window open for Xcopy attempts to search for it and then run it cause the same behavior |
right click on the task bar and say "open task manager" do a "file" then "new task" put in "cmd /k" and see if it stays open.
|
aha - I got my DOS box
Thanks! |
I'm a little worried about that symptom though.. That command is a "workaround" for situations where a virus, or spyware keeps closing the cmd window to prevent removal of those items. I'm not saying that anything is wrong on your system, just maybe you want to look into that.

Thanks - I ran Malware bytes on a Quick scan last night. It found nothing.
I use MSE all the time. Anything else I should do? |
just ran MSE (Quick Scan) - came up clean
History: I had an Email Sunday that faked my sister's acct as a send address - it was junk - I didn't open it all the way, but MS Outlook 2003 quick view panel did show it, so....(??) also had a Firefox update that choked & an iTunes update that choked have been having problems with the system hanging & nearly impossible to get backups done (tried to CDs and to DVDs both) ALSO: just ran CCleaner and got the odd Registry info below - does it look suspicious? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1304382096.jpg |
pretty fuzzy - it basically found several Firewall Policy Rules that are Invalid.
|
I'm sure it's fine, and I didn't want to alarm you with something that was probably just a guess. Maybe someone like Dave can chime in, almost all of my experience is in the enterprise side. The last time I worked on a desktop computer Windows 95 was all the rage.

thx - I'll start a new thread - might attract his attention
