sammyg2 05-02-2011 02:26 PM

Doan look like pakistan to me, not enuff sand.
Kinda looks more like Waco, before that whole fire thing.

btw, I was kidding.
That there is whatcha call a really big, really nice pakistan mansion. Only the very wealthiest can like like that, living high on the hog ;) I crack me up.

South and West are sandy. When I lived there, the sand/dirt/dust was so fine, it was like talcum. It "flowed" and leveled like water.

As you go North and East, the land becomes quite green. Lahore, while no garden spot, was full of vegatation.

the town is based on medical, education, and tourist dollars

the Brits started it as a resort

many go there en route to a vacation in the nearby mountains, for hiking, etc.

it has the Paki version of West Point, a military base, and a golf course

nice place - good spot for a vacation...

So, that's what a million bucks buys you these days in Pakistan... no thanks, I'll pass.

sammyg2 05-02-2011 03:18 PM

From what I hear, there was enough intel info in that building to make it worth a whole bunch more than a million bucks.

They reportedly got intel that can make a big dent in that al-qaida team.

Is that a water bed?

RWebb 05-03-2011 12:56 PM

CIA has set up an entire task force to go thru the intel collected

The US dollar just doesn't go very far in the rest of the world these days.

Britain's Channel 4 News:

A local shopkeeper, who sold cigarettes and drinks to men from the compound, said on Tuesday that he did ask himself, "Why have these people built such high walls?" Another man explained that none one of the eight or nine children living inside the high walls "ever played outside, and whenever the neighboring children's ball went into that compound, they would knock on the door and those people would tell them, 'There's no ball here,' and give them money. They wouldn't let them in."

The report also points out that neighbors were aware of the odd fact that the compound had an independent supply of gas and electricity. One young man who spoke to Channel 4 News close to the home on Tuesday said, "Everyone thought that this house was very strange.... these tall walls and... a strange and a very frightening thing: why this [home] had a separate gas connection, why it had a separate electricity connection? It should have had a connection with the Bilal Town [grid], but it had no connection."

Independent supply of gas??
I heard an interview with a Pakistani who knows the area. He said "walled compounds that they would call villas in Europe aren't uncommon in this area. What made this one stand out was it's size. It is several times the size of the common walled home."
