Win 7 problems - VIRUS??

wondering if I could possibly have gotten a virus...

Win 7 computer

History:
I had an Email Sunday that faked my sister's acct as a send address - it was junk - I didn't open it all the way, but MS Outlook 2003 quick view panel did show it, so....(??)

also had a Firefox update that choked & an iTunes update that choked

have been having problems with the system hanging & nearly impossible to get backups done (tried to CDs and to DVDs both)

Precautions:

I use MSE all the time. Also have (or thought I had a firewall in the Router - some cheap Netgear router)

I ran Malware bytes on a Quick scan last night. It found nothing.

I also ran MSE on a Quick scan and it found nothing.

I ran CCleaner this afternoon and it found found several Firewall Policy Rules that are Invalid.

I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes this evening (after an update of the database) - again, nothing.

- anything else I should do??

iTunes will not run now & claims it is missing some files. I have not tried a new install there.

I did reinstall Firefox 4 and it seems fine now.

Did the FF update, iTunes update, hanging and backup issues start after the email or are these separate issues?

I'd say the chances of a virus are slim. You can try the online virus scanner from Symantec..

As for anything else... I think you've done enough, unless you want to follow up with spybot or AdAware.

Try reinstalling iTunes. That should fix that problem as well. Settings should be fine.

You seem to be having a bit of a go with Win7. Sorry to always see these problems crop up.

this is a long shot but i notice with itunes that when it tells me there is an update for itunes to download and i choose not to download it, within a week or so my itunes gets weird. almost like it has a self destructive code in it that is intended to force me to update. when i do update, the problem goes away. specifically, my itunes seems to get bogged down and become unresponsive until i download the update. maybe im paranoid but this has happened at least 5 times

i use windows 7

Thanks!

- I'll try the Symantec scan & reinstall iTunes.

the hanging and backup issues started after the FF update, iTunes update, and email QuickView - not sure what the order was for those last 3 items.

Yes, Win 7 has been a big problem in various ways; much worse for me than XP ever was.

maybe MS knows I've been selling off more of their stock...

boot into safe mode with networking. then run the symantec stuff.

i am new to win7, thus i am not sure that it can be booted into safe mode. that said, safe mode, if available will work best.

I have had the opposite experience. I had alot more problems with XP than 7.

Perhaps you have a virus. I had one not long ago which would close every window i opened rendering me powerless. Took it to my local diagnostic guy who manually removed the virus in 20 minutes and have been fine since. Otherwise my problems have strictly been related to itunes updates.
