Lately, you had told me that you were proud of me, but that you wished that you had been a better father. I want you to know that you were the best father I could wish for. Certainly, when I was 14 it did not seem so. Not at 17 or even 23. But around about the time I truly left home for good, I learned what you had taught me. You taught me to try my hand at new things, and learn how to do them well. The Marines have this saying "Improvise, adapt, overcome." You lived that every day, and by doing so, gave your children the education that circumstance denied you. And you continued to try to overcome even when you were too sick to eat because of the painkillers this last year.

You taught me hard work, to give 110% - A's were never enough. Do tasks right the first time, every time. Honesty, integrity, honor, chivalry, respect, loyalty, laughter, love of family, and love of God. (I never did get the dancing thing though). Thank you for being Father and Poppa, I hope that I will always make you proud.

The world is a poorer place without you. But you can have peace. Rest now, Father-friend, go with God.

Sad news. Sounds like you had a good relationship with him.

I lost my dad about 14 years ago. I rarely remember my dreams, but when I do he's usually a part of them.

Well done to both your Dad and you.
