A tow-truck driver who was attempting to repossess a car was shot and wounded this morning during a stickup in North Philadelphia, police said.
The 36-year-old victim was reported in stable condition at Temple University Hospital with wounds to the upper back and hand, police said.

He was attempting to repossess a car at North 9th and West Pike Streets about 3 a.m. when a man in an orange hoodie approached, pointed a silver revolver and demanded money, police said.

Both men struggled and the robber opened fire, wounding the repo man, police said. The gunman fled on foot......"

but more importantly, where are we setting the "high/low" for the number of comments from snipe on how this could have gone down better (i.e. how he would have handled it).

How did he repop cars then? I think most use a specialized form of the "wheel lift" type that is very quick to operate and move the car a few blocks before installing the safety chains.

They oughta make them with bullet proof glass.

1) there would have been (1) SHOT to the left side of head and above left eye.

2) 2nd round would have been to the chest

3) the rest of rounds would have been characterized by double taps to the chest and head and femoral arterys.

4) all the exit wounds would be characterized by MASSIVE WOUNDS known only to be inflicted by buffalo bore ammo.

5) snipe wears a level 928 bullet proof vest with a GIANT "S" emblazoned on it! level 928= laser beam death ray proofed(its a secret squirrel thing).

6) he would only be identified by the secret squirrel double secret decoder ring on his hand

Nope, wasn't me. I have repossessed dozens and dozens of cars in that neighborhood over the years though. It's a combat zone.

Never had anyone try to rob me while repossessing, but i was almost always armed anyway. I did have somebody try to rob me while delivering pizzas in my early 20s. I was armed then too.

And as hugh said, i never used a tow truck. I brought a partner and employed the knock and demand the keys approach. I always had a buddy on call with a tow truck company though, his trucks would tow for me night or day for $75.00. We usually drove my 928, or for a few years my partner at the time's 928. Drove a variety of pretty cool repo-mobiles over my 15ish year repo career. Never once a tow truck though.

It's a crazy way to make a living. Lot of guys get shot or seriously f'ed up. Or ran over... :-/

Two Dead After Shootout Involving Texas Tow Truck Driver

DALLAS (May 6, 2011)—A man who was upset that his vehicle was towed away shot a tow truck worker to death before he was shot and killed by the tow truck driver early Friday, police said.

Dallas police said the tow truck driver and his helper were looking for cars that weren't authorized to park in an apartment lot early Friday.

Police spokesman Kevin Janse said the gunman emerged and began shooting, striking the truck's passenger.

The truck's driver then got out and shot the gunman to death.

Janse says the gunman, Israel Esparza, 36, "came out to seek revenge" after his car had been towed.

Esparza shot and killed Jose Martinez, 28, before he was fatally wounded.

The truck's driver, Antonio Jones, 41, was arrested and questioned, but was later released pending a grand jury review.

Thankfully no one has ever opened fire at me. I've been threatened and had knives brandished at me, and been threatened to be shot, but never once has anyone waved a gun in my face or taken a shot at me.

I consider myself lucky. A lot of guys i know in the field have had that stuff happen to them before.
