Calling HK owners....

Totally stole this one yesterday. It was a range rental gun, but I disassembled it before I bought it and it looked totally unused. Just about no signs of wear on the rails, no smilies on the barrel, just a killer steal.

So I went back to put 100 rounds through her today and it didn't go so well. Trigger felt very stiff and my groups were more than 3" unsupported at 21'. They tightened up the more I shot, but I was expecting SIG-like accuracy for what these guns normally go for. Anyway, just curious if any of you HK guys, who've bought new or almost new guns needed a while before the trigger lightened up and things felt smooth and crisp. I'm not sure I'm keeping this one, but I had to buy it when I saw that price. I think it dropped $90 from Friday to Saturday. The store was having its 7th b-day blow-out sale. Best deal I saw was a Springfield XD for $287. Just don't like them though.

No, they were down to slim pickings when I went back yesterday. I wanted a Glock 22, but missed them. I figure I'll have no problem trading this one for a newish Gen 4 with night sights, if I decide to do that. I got there Friday morning at 7:50 and there were about 100 people in line in front of me before they opened the doors at 8. They had about 100 handguns strewn about on folding tables like at a flea market. I think they cut the prices some more for the leftovers from Friday. Sale is all done now.

Rick, I purchased the exact same pistol but with the stainless slide a few years back. Mine had similar story and usage when I purchased it. After ~400 rounds the trigger gets much better, at least that was my experience.

Good luck!!

James

That's good news. Now I'm sitting here, dry firing it on a spent shell casing until my trigger finger gets tired. I have some snap caps laying around, but can't find them. I hope a spent shell casing is ok too.

Rick, empty shell casing is fine. Especially for the number of dry fires you are performing. My procedure for this is to put a bunch of good quality oil in there while doing this but whatever has worked for you in the past should be fine.

Cheers, James

USP LEM - HKPARTS.NET

LEM (Law Enforcement Modification) Trigger
Developed especially for the U.S. government, the Law Enforcement Modification (or LEM for short), is a USP DAO (Double-Action Only) model with a unique trigger mechanism. This mechanism improves the double action trigger performance and reduces the weight of the DAO trigger pull to 7.5–8.5 pounds, uses a stronger hammer spring, and shortens the trigger reset. Aside from the LEM mechanism, it is identical to the USP Variant 7 (DAO) model.

Used USPs go for big bucks around here. I paid mid $600's for my new full size USP 40 12 yrs ago. Used ones go for about that now.

Rick,
I own the same gun. On mine the trigger loosened up however it was never as accurate as I expected. I ended up buying an accurized barrel and now it shoots as one would expect. I was very surprised that this was necessary with HK's rep

Lee, this is not a DAO gun. The single action pull on this is 4.4 lbs. and I'd like it a tad lighter. I know I should practice DA shooting, but my Glock is the only DAO gun I'll ever own.
