Paul Newman's VW cabrio.

Maybe it's been posted before, but here it is again, lots of pictures.

The Paul Newman V8 Beetle

I knew of the car when it had a 356/912 motor in it. The V8 does not seem like Newman to me.

Crazy asking price but lots of old school engineering. I bet it drives a lot better than more "modern cars" from the era.

The rear water/oil coolers over the rear muffler seems an odd combination Wouldn't radiant heat be an issue? Looks like there is no shielding between the two.

Also, the seller says the rear compartment has tubes that pull hot air over the radiators and it's well thought out?

These vent tubes here pull hot engine air out of the engine bay and run it through the radiators.
Its all very wll thought out and executed brilliantly.

Cool looking car, but...

Evidently it didn't work so well. Here's a link to Paul Newman on Jay Leno 08-04-2005...can't remember if it's part one or part two where Newman mentions the VW.

Forget about that V8.

Look at that loafer/white socks combo, nicely complemented by the way too short pants....

Do you think he cared about fashion critics?

Probably not, but does that mean it is forbidden for me to comment on it 20 years later?

Dave Letterman wears white socks now. What's the big deal?

I still cringe at no socks with slip on's... (80s)

No big deal at all, I just commented that he looks ridiculous by today's standards.
I guess that was hard to swallow for Paul.

This is the class/style equivalent of white socks IMO, whether Letterman wears them or not, IDC

Back on topic.

Part one, almost the first thing Leno asks him is about a VW convertible with a Porsche engine in it. Newman replies, "That's before I put the V8 in it. A Ford V8. It didn't work."

$200,000,000 from Tomato sauce! That's impressive.

He was always The Hollywood Star. His marriage and life were extraordinary.

RIP Mr Newman.
