Thrown under the bus - Cliche ?

It is really getting over used. I watching talking heads and EVERYONE is being thrown under the bus.

I think it is reaching Cliche status.

Shuie 05-19-2011 06:03 PM

It was over used 3 yrs ago.

Gogar 05-19-2011 06:48 PM

So what you're saying is that Thrown Under the Bus has Jumped the Shark.

red-beard 05-19-2011 06:52 PM

It seems as old as the hills

Danny_Ocean 05-19-2011 07:21 PM

VINMAN 05-19-2011 07:36 PM

You just threw "threw under the bus", under the bus!

red-beard 05-19-2011 07:39 PM

I put it in as a suggestion

RWebb 05-19-2011 08:03 PM

it's an over-used narrative, that's for sure

mattdavis11 05-19-2011 08:24 PM

What a crock of shyte! This thread is useless without pictures of people and said bus.

Embraer 05-19-2011 09:47 PM

Pwned, WIN, Fail, REALY REALLY WANT, N00B, _____ Cat Sez, motivational posters, matte black cars....they're all played out.

M.D. Holloway 05-19-2011 10:13 PM

Imagine a tatoo of tire tracks on your back! That would be a living cliche...

"Fail" is my pet peeve. In fact, I'm really sick of verbs and nouns swapping places. My company uses "position" as a verb in just about every internal email.

Schumi 05-19-2011 11:25 PM

Funny.

An email chain at work recently was doing some finger pointing on who was responsible for an item, and it was mistakenly assigned in the email to one manager when we all really knew it was someone else's.

I BCC'd the email to a colleague with a picture attached of a bus with an arrow pointing under it.

"tossed under the bus", or variation thereof. That's a pretty annoying one that been beat like a dead horse lately.

Really?

Sorry, that is my pet peeve.

speeder 05-20-2011 12:38 PM

It's pretty un-clever but that covers most of TV, doesn't it?

speeder 05-20-2011 12:40 PM

My brother was telling me a story recently about being "sold down the river" by someone. That one is a lot more tried and true, IMO.

gorthar 05-20-2011 12:49 PM

I've been thrown under the short bus...

12own911 05-20-2011 12:58 PM

My son rides the short bus... and loves it... I would hate for him to be thrown under it. :D

Fixed it.

When expressions get used by the old farts like pwd72s and me, they are beyond cliché.

azasadny 05-20-2011 02:30 PM

"Thrown under the bus" is so last Tuesday...

looneybin 05-20-2011 04:03 PM

what about when someone says "coming down the pike" wouldn't it be PIPE???

what comes down a pike? unless someone is doing something fishy.
I've heard of a head on a pike, maybe that's what is sliding down.

And i'm sick of hearing "in this economy"

hijack over

Turnpike. Down the Pike, you Piker.

Superman 05-20-2011 04:27 PM

Among building trades unions, "thrown under the bus" will never be abandoned as cliche. It is their main method of accomplishing something. Seriously. No group of organizations is more vicious than building trades unions.

It goes either way anymore. Not everyone lives near a "turnpike" and therefore does not know of the original reference. Some even say "pipeline."

looneybin 05-22-2011 08:13 AM

turnpike???
we call them freeways/highways/expressways out here on the left coast

Por_sha911 05-22-2011 12:15 PM

"Thrown under the bus" has "jumped the shark" (overused to the n'th degree)
