Did anyone watch the NatGeo show on LA porsche dismantlers ?
If so, what did you think?
I was a little shocked. They sent me a postcard about it with the air date, I must be in their database. But I think this show is probably the worst kind of advertising one could get. Maybe it's the results of the production, but let's just say they don't come out looking very professional (destroying a 986 windshield for no reason, dropping a boxster shell on the sidewalk from a forklift, not ever checking if the engines out of a complete wreck even work at all - in and out and on a palette in no time, infighting between the sales team and the shop crew, boasting about how much $$$ they can resell stuff for, etc...) I mean it looked more like "Jersey shore" in a wrecking yard than what I expected. After watching that, and visiting other wreckers, I'm way more likely to call Easy in emeryville and Parts heaven, or anyone else but them... Talk about a failure in advertising ! Maybe I was not in the right mood.. Anybody else watch this? Last edited by Deschodt; 05-20-2011 at 03:25 AM.. |

I got postcard about it too, but missed the airing. :-/ ..that's Sherwood's (911PCAR) place, right?
Here I was thinking that he scored some great marketing. ...sounds awful. Is it on you-tube yet?

I watched the first third of it and bailed. It was a worthless show and didn't show the company in any sort of positive light. Like you, I wouldn't buy from them.

I agree with you - I have bought parts from them in the past, and thanks to that show, I don't think I'm going to be dealing with them anymore - it was not good advertising.

I've never bought parts from them in the past (we have 20th street here locally) but after seeing the show, I will never even consider them.

Ok, so it wasn't just me then ;-) I can't fathom why, as the owner of a business you'd portray yourself in such a light ! This hit 99% of all the clichés...

Man, do you have the wrong image of Sherwood. That's just funny.
I didn't get too much of a negative reaction about the business from the show. What in the world do you guys think these places are like? I've never had a dealing with a wrecking yard that I didn't want to wash my hands after leaving and that was not because of dirty parts. |

I saw the clips on the National Geographic website, but I'd like to see the entire episode. I couldn't find it on youtube - anyone seen it posted anywhere?

If it's LAPD, (Los Angeles Porsche Dismantlers), they're the last place you'd call even before hearing of this show. There are tons of decent places to buy used Porsche parts, (including private parties). That ain't one of them.

![]() Sherwood is a professional photographer and FWIW a soft-spoken and intelligent gentleman. To connect him to the sleaziest junkyard on earth is slanderous. That's a big can of WTF.

Considering that Sherwood signs his name on every post, I would expect that he lose the 911pcars name . . if the association is so horrid. (again, I don't know ... I've only seen the ad's)

i saw it last night after a dude i worked with mentioned it. the show was called "break it up" or something like that. if you've got directv do a search for it. i recorded it from a 3PM pacific time broadcast yesterday.
agreed, they did make them look like clowns, especially the office dude from brooklyn with his lame ass hat worn to the side all gangsta like. the old Russian guy they made seem like some genius or something??? wtf? how hard is it to tear **** apart like that? when i was a kid i could take stuff apart and did so all the time. putting it back together is where the skill is at and that took time. what about the owner's wife? was she an amazon or what? she was a big old hunk of trashy love that was seemed like the place's junk yard dog..... too funny...

I don't think anyone here knew that Sherwood's user name was so similar to their web address. I'm not sure he knew that. So, it was a genuine mistake.
But don't mistake Sherwood for one of those guys up in Sun Valley. From "Dismantler's" web site: "We speak / read the following languages: Armenian, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Farsi, French, Korean, Spanish, Taiwanese, Mandarin" The first 5 will give you a profile. |

not so serious
first of all; IT IS A REALITY SHOW, there is some sort of script that sells to the majority.(OC choppers and others)
second, i always got good parts from them, a good price and was never fooled, they were always honest towards me, that is all i care about when i buy parts third, its a frickin junkyard,....not a prep school, i will, like many others continue buying from them being able to communicate in all those languages, ....impressive! my 2 cents Hans
