Table saw.
I've had one for about 12 years and it's paid for itself many times over. It's a Triton... It uses a standard circular saw. Well built and when not being used as a table saw I use it as a sturdy work bench. For sanding or routing or mixing paint or assembling a project... Just about anything that doesn't involve a hammer. It can also be converted to a cross cut saw. I can post pics if you want. |

Lots of things are dangerous but we do them anyway.
The thing I like about power saws or any power tool is that YOU are in control of what you do with them. If you follow some basic safety rules you can not hurt yourself with a table saw. But thats the thing. We get complacent and think we can just cut this little piece of wood quickly... So you don't pull down your safety glasses and that's when it happens. EDIT... From the thread link above. Quote:

My dad has an old Sears radial arm saw from the early 70's. Barely used, but it sounds like an F-18 starting and going to afterburner when going.
Scares the bejeez out me. Anybody have that kink to the radial arm saw recall link? |
I have had more injuries from a hammer than any of my power tools. Including my radial arm saw.

Hammer to the thumb? Meh.. nothing a red hot 1/16 drill bit can take care of. :D

I worked in a millwork shop when younger and one day I was catching on a large industrial table saw. We were making millwork for a school/hospital and running a dado. The guy manning the saw wasn't paying attention after hours of work AND wasn't using a push stick. Pretty amazing how quickly a dado blade can carve meat out of the palm of your hand ! :o He was very lucky to only carve meat and didn't lose tendons/muscle but it left a very ugly scar. I remember taking him to the hospital and all he kept saying was how stupid that was .

IMHO, the only cut a radial arm will do that a table saw won't do is take your arm off at the elbow.
