Change user name?

Can I change my user name without losing all of my posts? I could not find an answer in the FAQs or using "help".

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not sure you can change your user name. All I saw was that you could change the description under your name (and that won't change your post count).

You have to request help from a moderator. I know they can do it, but they likely have better things to do.

Your old posts simply appear with your new name.

Have a 'valid' reason ready.

I wouldn't mind changing mine. It's an old AOL instant messaging name from college. I just used the name so I could quickly post a question in the 944 tech forum. I didn't put too much thought into it at the time. Who knew I would still be here after all these years? :)

When I first joined Pelican, I had my last name as my user name. I later had it changed by a moderator. I explained the reason for the request and it was done. None of the previous posts were lost, but were under my new user name.

OJU did it.

porsche4life 05-28-2011 01:18 PM

No he didn't he opened a new account... ;)

Heel n Toe 05-28-2011 01:29 PM

Ah... cool... OJU is definitely an outside-the-box guy. Heh heh. :)

Porsche-O-Phile 05-28-2011 04:47 PM

OJU did it because of former wife/legal issues. That qualifies as a "damn good reason". I'm pretty sure most legal type situations would too. Milt did it also - don't know the specifics and don't care but just sayin' yeah it can be done and has been.

rattlsnak 05-28-2011 05:59 PM

I have completely blanked out..Who was OJU before?

PM sent

FastCarFan 05-30-2011 06:03 AM

Thanks for the responses. I don't have a "damned good reason" - I just want to change to a user name that is more representative of how I feel. A car doesn't have to be "fast" for me to like it (not that I don't like fast cars).

Didn't know the mods were so tough. If any moderator is reading this & would like to help me change my user name, please send me a PM. Your help would be appreciated.

just PM a mod,
ask them to change your account sign on name,
its not a big deal

island911 05-30-2011 06:11 AM

Why not just change your avatar to a pic of the 911 fan? (change the meaning)

Mrmerlin 05-30-2011 11:30 AM

Island , after i read your post ....
It got me LOL,

that was a great observation

That is clever. Not what I was thinking, but not bad at all.

Tim Walsh 05-31-2011 04:07 AM

It can definitely be done, but yep, you'll need a good reason other than "I want to" I had it done about 5 years ago from l33t9eek.
