I love James Taylor but most of his stuff in not what I would classify as "easy to play".

Anything by Cat Stevens.

Think about needle and the damage done by Neil young

There you go, do "Needle and the Damage Done" which Neil wrote about Danny Whitten and then you have some stage "patter" to segue into "I Don't Wanna Talk About It".

Wow! That sure looks like a winner. Thanks Shane!

Part of the reason I say this is because the venue will be a fun, unsophisticated, backcountry place that is crawling with harmonicas. I'll get all the accompaniment I want, particularly if I ask for it. This is gonna be fun.

I am glad you like it I have a whole online songbook of easy songs at Chordie (online).

casey jones, easy wind, land of the navajo, the monkey and the engineer, hot rod lincoln, deep elem blues, operator, loose lucy, a simple twist of fate, the harder they come, when the hunter gets captured by the game, tougher than the rest, 6 days on the road, thunderstorms and neon signs, big river.

don't forget to play the little man in the boat. I mean, afterwards at the after party. Yours and hers.

Played that last night. Lots of wailing and shrieking. I think she enjoyed it.

Try playing it to the tune of the alphabet song. ;)

rusnak 05-31-2011 04:40 PM

I think you might have to humm it to her though.

nostatic 05-31-2011 06:16 PM

fwiw, it might be easier to do a tune that is less "serious." Trying to pull off Neil Young is a stretch imho - just too iconic. You can do what amount to "standards" like All Along the Watchtower - easy and covered so many times you can do something different with it.

Might I suggest going more lighthearted. I have done "Convoy" live a couple times and it gets a good reaction. I've also done Brand New Key (by Melanie) and Staying Alive (kind of a country feel complete with falsetto vocal). Or change the lyrics of a song like Sweet Home Alabama (sweet home <insert your neighborhood here>).
