Dumbest of the dumb, New Durango ad

Well, I don't know about you guys but, every time I see / hear the Durango TV ad I've just have to say WTF??... The Durango's been off in Europe getting a Master's degree?? Driving the European roads?? Lifting weights????.........what a line of stupid BS.

I tell you what, That is the stupidest ad ever.

Whats stupid about it? Everybody knows the roads in Europe are far superior, so the new model must be better since it was refined over there..

superior to what? What European roads are we talking about? I have been to many of the Western states, and there are some find roads around. As a matter of fact, I just step into my house from Yellowstone after just about a two week trip.

Its been in Europe getting a Masters because they bought the Mercedes GL chassis and then outfit it with MOPAR details. I would suspect that they subcontracted the building and testing to a European firm to get the kinks out then have a Chrysler plant do the manufacturing. I think the advertisement make sense.

BeyGon 05-30-2011 06:44 AM

I thought it was pretty catchy, like importing cars from Detroit.

Christien 05-30-2011 06:57 AM

Those are both really, really bad commercials, especially the 300. I haven't driven the 2011s, but I've driven plenty of the previous generations. The Durango is fine, but the 300 is a huge disappointment, IMO. Chrysler could learn a lot about how to do a luxury interior from _____ (fill in the blank with any European manufacturer here).

mossguy 05-30-2011 06:58 AM

Does anyone have a link to the Durango ad?

Porsche-O-Phile 05-30-2011 06:59 AM

You guys watch commercials?

Sometimes it's the best part of the program!

You're talking about it online, the ad guys earned their money.

+1

rick-l 05-30-2011 08:36 AM

It won't sell any cars however.

Since they paid off the loans and are not under government control maybe things will change now.

8 year bonds paying 8% hmmmm I wonder what they are rated?

Buckterrier 05-30-2011 10:02 AM

I kind of like it myself. Now what was REALLY dumb was the G6 commercial. "The FIRST EVER G6". How'd that work out for Pontiac???

I hope you didnt think I was serious....

Yes, we're talking about it. However, won't be buying it.

I'll give the add credit, I never knew that Durango was gone for two years. Beyond that it probably makes me want to buy one less, not that I ever wanted one in the first place.

pwd72s 05-30-2011 12:12 PM

IMO, no dumber than Porsche portraying the GT3 as a grocery getter...

VaSteve 05-30-2011 12:45 PM

Its now a unibody suv as opposed to the old body on truck frame....thus, more refined. I saw a bunch of them last week as part of the orlando rental fleet. It looks nice, but hardly like it used to. I also didn't see a place to put the tow hitch without cutting the bumpers up. Odd.

regency 05-30-2011 01:11 PM

I think "it" got "it's" "Masters" degree from one of those on-line programs.....and pumped "iron" with Arnold.

I detest Chrysler products for the most part. Mopar hater to the core.

But I was at Deception Pass State Park here in WA today, and I saw a new Durango on the road. Its tough looking machine.

+1 = but ended up getting a Jeep Grand Cherokee as a company car.

It's great. It cost less than comparable cars in the class. It gets better gas mileage (around 22 combined - up to 25/26 on the highway)

It rides better than any other in the class that I drove.

The interior is much nicer than others in the price range.

With some of the savings - I did buy the extended warranty.

In all it's glory.

Video: Dodge Durango catches fire during D.C. Cherry Blossom Parade while on float-pulling duty — Autoblog

Quote:

After the jump is video of a spanking-new 2011 Dodge Durango Citadel as it sat in the middle of the parade route, spouting flames from the hood. A local NBC affiliate reports that the newly designed SUV began to spew black smoke while towing a float on the parade route. After the hood was propped up the black smoke turned into a full-on car-b-que that engulfed the engine bay in flames. The local fire department, which was likely already participating in the parade, later came and doused the blaze, but the incident prolonged the parade by about 15 minutes.

I like how it's parked facing the wrong way at the end.
