From Spoons to Ladels...
 

Well, I got bit by the belt fed bug earlier this year when I got a Polish RPD and since have successfully built three Browning 1919A4's. I swear building Kalashnikov's is like a gateway drug. Before you know it, you start thinking of other things to build... one thing leads to another and before you know it, BAM, you've got three 1919's sitting in your safe.

Now I can't help myself. I just dropped some coin on what is sure to be my biggest challenge yet. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you Mr. Goryunov SG43!

These things are cool. I got the carriage mount and even a mounted night vision scope for the SG43.

Now, I just have to turn these chunks of scrap into a working semi-auto receiver:

Plus, with 7.62x54R at about .16 cents a round, you can't beat it for cheap fun!

There is a receiver right now at the BATFE tech branch and hopefully the submitted denial pin configuration wins approval. The real challenge wit the Gory is apparently designing and fitting a fire control group in the receiver with such limited space. The gun was originally designed to fire full auto from an open bolt. We poor civilian pukes have to convert it to a semi-auto closed bolt operation which is more complicated.

It will still be quite a conversation piece though!

The other funny thing is that I can't own a lot of my firearms here in CA because of the assault weapons laws. However, this monster is perfectly legal as it is not shoulder fired and doesn't meet the legal definition of a "rifle" needed to be identified as a AW. I am screwed for the time being on belts though... I have to have someone cut up some perfectly good belts into 10 round lengths until we move out of state.

WOW I am impressed...no fire fight with you....Mothers advice here is "TO RUN" and quickly I might add.

Leland, quite often (almost every other month) there is 'FA-get-together' in Las Vegas .. do you want me to keep you posted? Was one on Sunday 'organized' by some of the dealers in the valley. from G18's and MP5SD's to ma deuce and everything in between, Ron usually has the ma deuce mounted atop is demil humvee (legal to drive like that in Nevada as long as there is no round in the chamber)

The problem with the Black stuff is that it has no SOUL....perhaps it is a reflection of the age.

When are you going to graduate up to the real deal? MG-42 sure would look nice and does not use fabric belts, just limit the belts to 10 rounds! :)

Please keep me posted on your FA gatherings, I may be able to com hang out. I am trying like hell to get my wife on board with moving to NV. She is ok with Reno, but LV will take more effort as it's a lot further from her family. I am hoping there is a place for a guy like me in the gaming industry since they obviously have to employ a higher level of security professionals than Walgreens or the like.

I missed the boat on MG42's by several years. The current offerings seems to be mostly Yugo mixmaster kits from the bottom of the barrel. There are some out there and the only reason I don't want to fool with one is that I hate to have to start stockpiling 8mm mauser to add to my small but respectable stash. I try to stick to a certain family of cartridges and I can't afford to add another!

What's class III paper? Are you referring to tax stamps?

I have some very bad news for you. They also have MG42 barrels in NATO rounds. This same weapon, slightly upgraded, is still being used in some of the old Eastern Bloc countries.

ahhhh... I see now. Yer just paying the stamp and fees. That works. I am amazed at how expensive full auto stuff costs. The local police dept here just auctioned off a full auto Thompson from the 20's. It was the real deal. They got $40K for it.

The gun I'm building is semi-auto. A private individual can no longer manufacture a machine gun.

That privilege is reserved for our masters on the Patomac.

Any pre-'86 transferable MG's are a high priced commodity. Joe... I really didn't need to know that. :D

While those look like fun when the black helicopters show up.......I've been doing some machina work on this since I picked it up.....rounds be a lot cheaper.:cool:
