fishing derby for kids?

Any of you guys have taken your kids to the local fishing derby run by the city or various organizations? He 5, so I am thinking its time. I have not gone fishing in 35 years. The last time was catching little blue gills. I am not sure what to expect. I hope we catch something.

Jeff

There's one coming up in Cerritos tomorrow. My five year old want to be like the guy in River Monster. We were at the Bass Pro Shop in Vegas on the way back from Yellowstone, he saw a demo on how to fish there in their tank. Now he wants to catch a fish.

I have no idea. Like I said, I have not been fishing for a long time. How big is this place?

candy cane is kinda like a hook..you sicko.

honest answer, i havent been fishing in years..but you will need tiny hooks..and worms.

man,i hope the kid catches something. nothing more discouraging than getting skunked on the first outing. put the worm into the and around bushes.

good luck. my first fish was a tiny bluegill too!

I have been feeding our Bluegill and Bass stale bread for years. Makes it nice when the nephews or othr little kids come over to fish. We just put a piece of bread on a hook and drop it in the water 2-3 ft from shore.... bam... instant Bluegill. If you put a bigger piece of bread on and toss it out 5-6 ft.... bam... instant Bass. Prior to my feeding of the fish, we rarely caught bass and the bluegills were hit or miss somedays. Now the fish are trained and they come right up to shore when you walk up as they await their food. Makes it real fun to let the kids catch twenty fish in 1/2 hr.
