I met Donna 30 y/o in an MBA program. She worked at various positions at May Co. (now Macy's) then took 15 years off to raise our two kids. Went back to work as a part-time admin at the local K-6 school district and has moved up the ranks. Last night the Superintendent of the School District appointed her as the Interim Director of Facilities, until the current Director retires in 90 days. They interviewed about a dozen guys for the job, and based on her record of management in her position as Purchasing Agent, and the fact that she has saved them literally millions in purchases, they passed over all the male applicants and asked her to take the position. She hadn't even applied for the position. The position becomes permanent in 90 days assuming she wants to keep it, and they're pleased with her performance.

She saved the school district a ton of money by holding architects to their fees, getting competitive bids, and other common sense stuff. For example, she realized in her first few months as Purchasing Agent that the District was paying for trash hauling during the summer at schools that didn't have Summer school. She saved them something like $10,000 for a very small school district by renegotiating the trash haulers contracts so they didn't pay for trash hauling at those schools that were closed for the Summer. Modest interim salary increase of 6%, but may be much higher when the position becomes permanent. One fatal flaw that guys always fall into is underestimating smart, good looking blondes; like my wife and daughter. My 25 y/o daughter is on track to be the youngest partner ever at the big 4 accounting firm KPMG.

Kidding. Congrats to you and your wife. Sounds like she knows how to ask questions and think for herself. If you want to get rid of her, she sounds like the kind of woman I'm looking for.
