On a busy intersection in NYC
Amazing. Remind me never to go there.

Crazy! And lots of yellow cabs.

Those bike messengers are the worst. The temptation to just plow into them is huge. I so happy the cops are really starting to crack down on them.
|
For the most part bicyclists in this city suck, they're all azz holes. I am always tempted to knock one down when they are so damn inconsiderate.
There is a new ad campaign by the NYC Dept of Traffic to educate motorists and bicyclists, it's called "Don't be a Jerk". YouTube - ‪Don't Be a Jerk - Yield to Pedestrians‬‏ |
Truck U turn was great.

I live 12 miles from the nearest traffic light........which is the ONLY traffic light in Orange County.
While visiting my sister in N.Y. my wife got a ticket for running a red light (didn't see it). The cop said don't they have traffic lights in VT.? Wife said yup and i know right where it is. |
I see nothing wrong there -- looks like a typical NYC intersection.
A red outline should indicate contact -- I don't think I saw any contact between bikes/people/cars, Guy who made the vid must be from the mid-west or somethin... |
I'm from the midwest and that was nothing....but a waste of time.
|
I agree. No one hurt.
|
Spend one day driving around the city, and your opinion on bicyclists will change real fast.
|
I used to ride daily. While I would obey most traffic laws, it didn't bother me to ride within a few inches of cars, pedestrians, or even trucks and busses.
Outside of the wrong way riding, looked pretty normal to me. |
Saw a bike messenger do one of those against the red light wrong way almost clipped the pedestrian in the crosswalk deals in SF. Old man stuck his cane in the guys front wheel and the cyclist did a header into an oncoming vehicle stopped at the signal. Old man was fine, cyclist ended up going to the hospital in handcuffs when he took umbrage at the elderly gentleman's reaction to practically being run over. I think the old man could maybe have taken him if we let the cyclist go.

if everyone just holds their line, there are no problems. Whoever made the video obviously has never seen a criterium race.
Urban environments are...urban. Shocking. If you want a 20' bubble of space around you then the city ain't the place for you. |
In India, people would be shocked at how orderly everyone was being.
|
New York is New York. How did they do the zoom-in at beginning of video? That was amazing. Just "stop action" of google earth shots??

Some bicyclist just seem to think they have the complete right-away at all times.
This is no different than downtown Seattle. BTW: it is legal for a bicycle to both ride on the road and sidewalks here in Seattle, which I don't have a big problem with, but most of the time they jump back and forth without looking behind them to see if they are cutting someone off. I love the sign I saw the other day directly in front of the police station on Capital Hill. It said "No turn on red," but then had a sign underneath that one that said "except bicycles." This means that a bicycle not only can turn on red, but also does not have to stop on red? Seems a little dangerous to me, but Seattle is so "bike friendly" that they try too hard to appease the riders without stopping and thinking about the true dangers involved in their actions. I ride, and I am not perfect. I have been know to go through a red light if no cars are nearby, but I seem to use a little more common sense (courtesy) than I see with some other riders. I've seen other riders, like the video above, that seem to think they have the right-away at all times, with complete disregard to cars and people. I have two words for you "Critical Mass." - Rant over. ;) |

you'd be missing a helluva good time by not coming here. but if that dumbass video bothers you... please stay home.
|
Obviously we should ban walking if so many people are killed while doing it.
